This week we review the opening weekend of the NASL that saw 4 games played on Saturday evening.

This week we have game reports from: Joel Delgado from Fort Lauderdale, FL.,  Steve Holler from Tampa, FL., Chris Martz from Atlanta, Georgia, and Jarrett Campbell from Cary, NC. We also have post game comments from Stars head coach Manny Lagos after their victory against the Silverbacks.

Tim Robbie, president of the Fort Lauderdale Strikers also joins us for a discussion about the home opener for the rebranded Strikers. Robbie also talks about why he decided to jump on board with Traffic Sports and the Ft. Lauderdale team.

Of course, Gerry, Jay and I also give you our predictions for next week’s matchups.

Please join us for this second episode of the IMSoccer News North American Soccer League Podcast.

I really enjoyed the interview with the GM for the FL Strikers. I like the energy and excitement. I am looking forward to the match between the Stars and the Strikers on Friday night. Come on you Stars!

    Sylvain,

I am using Skype on all my audio conversations and using call recorder with Skype. Gerry is also using Skype. We are working on getting Jay set up with Skype. You can’t expect guest who are already taking time from their busy days to get to a computer and fire up Skype if they even have it. The interviews in this podcast took place over 3 days.

    Thanks for listening.

The effort is clearly worth it BQ! The amount of inside knowledge obtained from these interviews is well worth any small difficulty in the quality of the sound.

If you have an updated Mac with Skype, you can use quicktime to also record the audio.
Keep it going Brian. It’s great.

@BQ, Gerry, and yankiboy – Awesome stuff again this week fellas! I keep trying to figure out how to quantify what you were talking about in relation to Tim Robbie and what he means to the Strikers organization, and the South Florida Community. The only thing I can come up with is that you could not have gotten anyone better to head the Strikers organization. The phrase “perfect man for the job” is so cliche and overused, but it really, truly is the only way to describe Tim Robbie and his role. He hit the ground running about two months ago, and he’s kind to give credit to Traffic for the things done leading up to his joining the team, but he is what has made everything come together so perfectly over the last two months. And he is why many of the old-time Strikers fans like myself now have even more optimism about the future of this team.

I can’t begin to agree enough with you BQ that if every NASL team had someone like Tim Robbie who is absolutely perfectly positioned and suited to be President of their club, the NASL surviving long term would be a much, much stronger proposition. I really hope that Commissioner Downs takes the opportunity to “pick the brain” as it were of Mr. Robbie, someone who “gets it” in order to help all of the other clubs position themselves to be more successful.

As for Week 2′s games, I am very excited. All four opening night games decided by one goal, and I think we’re going to see another slate of exciting and close games again this weekend. And with the Strikers being in action Friday night, I might get a chance to actually catch some of the other league matches on the live stream the rest of the weekend.

Here’s hoping that Week 2 sees a Strikers victory (Sorry BQ!) and some more solid attendance figures all around the league!

Another great installment, kudos to you and ALL of your guests. BQ, your great work at covering D2 soccer will continue to reap benefits for the rest of us, such as being able to wrangle the most influential people in the league to participate in your interviews.
    THANK YOU ALL.
    Peace and futbol.

Great podcast! Brian, Gerry and Jay, keep up the great work as the only Division 2 dedicated podcast on the “airwaves”.
