MYSA State Cup Semifinals and Finals Set for this Weekend

The long cold winter  turned into the long cold and wet spring of 2011. It not only pushed back the flowers from blooming and the trees from leafing out, it has also affected the Minnesota Youth Soccer Association’s State Cup. Because of weather delays, many of the semi-finals and all of the finals have been pushed back to this weekend.

Looking at all the teams, boy and girls, that have earned a place in the semifinals of this year’s competition, 20 different clubs are represented.

Some interesting changes have occurred in the Boys groupings since Shattuck-St.Mary’s and the Minnesota Thunder Academy (MTA) moved to the US Development Academy at the U-15 through U-18 age level. With those teams no longer dominating, other teams have filled in the gaps.

Plymouth Soccer Association is clearly the club that has seemed to fill in some gaps in the boys competition with 5 teams wining spots in the semifinals.

However, clearly MTA with their Elite, North, South, East and West teams still lead the charge in boys and girls with 16 teams involved in the semis.

There also seems to be some trending in some of the younger ages. Minneapolis United has 3 clubs participating in the younger ages of the boys, 4 teams total. And St. Croix SC seems to continue to have many good girls teams, with 4 participating in the semis, and 2 more boys teams.
