North American Soccer League Podcast Episode #9
Welcome to week #9 of the IMSoccer News North American Soccer League Podcast. This week Gerry Wittmann is working on another IMS story and next week he’ll be on Gold Cup duty. So this week I’m joined by co-host regular Jay (YankiBoy) Long and our special guest, Tim Hayes, otherwise known as The Super Rookie.
Jay, Tim and I review this past week’s games and also look at the latest news of the league. We discuss this week’s NASL Players of the Week and talk about some of the best players in the league at the current time, including Etienne Barbara who was named the NASL Player of the Month for May.
We close down shop by giving our predictions for this coming week’s games.
Please join us for this 9th episode of the IMSoccer News North American Soccer League Podcast.

Thanks for the opportunity, but bring back Gerry!
Another wonderful thirty minutes of the D2 game. Thanks to you all, this podcast helps to keep all of us familiar with the other teams in our league, and ready to watch the next round of games.
Peace and futbol.
Neal,
Thanks for being a faithful reader and listener and for all the kind words and encouragement you give me and the other staff members of IMS.
Don’t forget to say thanks to Teresa as well. Her work on editing this site behind the scenes is tireless and way to often goes unappreciated. She is a important contributing member of the IMS team.
Super Rookie = Super Job. Good going, Tim, though you need to slap yankiboy down a bit more. When I return from my roadtrips, I’ll be headed to the unemployment office. But let me give you fair warning….when BQ says he has some other duties for you, well….shoveling his driveway isn’t a lot of fun. Just beware.
great show guys – whose bright idea was it to let superrookie on?
Another good show gentlemen, and a super job by the super rookie filling in for Gerry. Looking forward to this week’s games!
Great show lads, always appreciate your expertise in identifying the good players around the league.
@BQ – Don’t know if you’ve heard about it or not, but the FAA is trying to oust the Strikers from Lockhart at the end of this month when their lease is up. You can get the link to the online article in the Sun-Sentinel from the Strikers facebook page. Obviously this has HUGE ramifications on the Strikers and their NASL season beyond the June 29th make up game against the Rowdies. But what all NASL fans need to understand is, if this cannot be resolved, there could be a chance it causes the Strikers to shut down or relocate, and that would obviously affect the rest of the league. I mean worst case, we could be talking about the end of the NASL, or at least the end of their provisional sanctioning…..no snickering Bart………
Ya, know about it. My paying job is getting in the way of my non-paying job so I’ll get the real story up later.
“But what all NASL fans need to understand is, if this cannot be resolved, there could be a chance it causes the Strikers to shut down or relocate, and that would obviously affect the rest of the league. I mean worst case, we could be talking about the end of the NASL”
Wow, that’s a stretch
The NASL nor the Strikers will be shutting down. In fact the Strikers will probably continue to stay at Lockheart for the rest of the season.
@BQ – For some reason it looks like the team took down that post with the link to the article. Here is the direct link to the Sun-Sentinel site:

While I agree that in all likelikood both the team and the city would immediately go to court to prevent the FAA from evicting them on June 30th, and that will buy them enough time to finish out the season, I’m not sure about the long term consequences of this situation. If you’re Traffic, what do you do with your operation if you’re evicted? Moving the team offices from Ft. Lauderdale Stadium is easily accomplished, but where do the Strikers go to play? Ideas floating around are a cricket stadium in Lauderhill (west of Ft. Lauderdale), FIU, Tropical Park, FAU where majicjack women’s team plays, and my personal entry into the possibility category, Sun Life Stadium. Most of these situations would be problematic at best for the club, and certainly none of them seems likely at all long term.
So I pose the question, if you’re Traffic, and you do find yourself without Lockhart for your stadium, what do you do? Cost wise isn’t it more efficient to shut down this operation and move your organization into the home of one of your “other” two teams in Cary or Atlanta? Certainly Traffic isn’t going to suddenly decide to build a brand new SSS for a D2 franchise, if they could even find land in Broward to do it, would they? It certainly is a stretch, but what does the NASL do if Traffic decides it’s had enough, this is the last straw, and they pull out of D2 soccer in the US?
YES : KUDOS to Theresa (aka GumbyGrrl) … making sure your participles are in agreement, and all the apostrophies are in their proper place.
@ Strikers Return
{snicker, snicker} Now, not even I would believe that a venue issue popping up would create a downfall for NASL or the lowly Strikers. Surely {snicker, snicker}, this group is smart enough to have a different venue in place in case something this devastating occurs.
I mean, after all, we are talking about some of the greatest soccer geniuses of our lifetime {snicker, snicker, guffah, guffah, hahahahaha}
SuperRookie, where was my “shout out.” BTW, the guys up in Edmonton have been interacting with the online chat well before the guys in Atlanta were doing it.
Listen again Soccerboy. I heard it.
^Soccer Boy, I heard it and I was going to suggest that we fine Rook. The IMS NASL Podcast Employee manual clearly states (under the section regarding Employee conduct) on page 3, in Sect 2, Paragraph 3, second line– “No shout-outs will be made by the IMS NASL Podcast staff until they are fully vested after having completed a minimum of 3 (three) shows”.
So way to get your boy in trouble. The fine is 25% of his compensation for his appearance (yeah–I know it’s alot, and it seems really “harsh” but we can’t have anarchy on the show).
You should contribute money to pay thesuperrookie’s fine (kinda like we DC United supporters did when Alecko spit out the Red Bull he took a swig of after scoring against Energy Drink FC)…
I loved the goal celebration. One of the best ever.
