Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story – Movie Premiere in the Twin Cities
You are invited to a very special premier of Rise and Shine: the Jay DeMerit Story.
Rise and Shine is a documentary about the amazing story of Green Bay, Wisconsin native, Jay DeMerit. I think most everyone knows DeMerit’s story by now. The kid who played soccer for the University of Illinois at Chicago wasn’t drafted by MLS so he flew to England and started playing for a seventh-tier side. Jay’s persistence and hard work brought him to the attention of Watford manager Ray Lewington. The rest is history documented in this film, Rise and Shine.
The film will be shown at the Sweetwater Bar and Grille in St. Paul before the US v Panama Gold Cup game, which will also be shown at the Sweetwater.
Nick Lewis and Ranko Tutulugdzija are two of DeMerit’s friends and produced the film even though they had never created a feature before this one. Lewis and Tutulugdzija need to raise $215,000 to cover licensing rights for Premier League and World Cup highlights so they can then distribute the film world wide.
The two are using Kickstarter as a fundraising tool, and have received a little more than $55,000 in pledges but still have a long way to go by July 18, the deadline for the fundraising.
Those who make pledges to the project receive items for the level of their donation. The most popular pledge for “Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story” is $25, for which backers receive a DVD of the completed movie. So even if you cannot make this Twin Cities Premiere you can donate and get your own copy of the movie.
You can be part of the success of this film by going online before hand and logging into www.kickstarter.com and making a donation or by giving a donation at the event.
