NASL Goalkeeper Woes Continue; Impacts’ Bill Gaudette Out 4-6 Weeks, Parker and Defender Matthijs Out for Edmonton

Impact goalkeeper Bill Gaudette will miss 4-6 weeks with an ankle injury.
Earlier this season Daryl Sattler, the FC Tampa Bay goalkeeper, was having quite a start to the season. That is, until he tore his ACL which ended his year.
Last Friday evening at Foote Field in Edmonton, the Eddies were taking on the Carolina RailHawks when goalkeeper Lance Parker dove for a ball. Parker was filling in for suspended starting keeper Rein Baart. The backup goalkeeper fell awkwardly and suffered a compound fracture of his right arm. Parker’s return this season would seem improbable.
On Sunday in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, where the Impact were playing the Islanders, Montreal goalkeeper and former Islander Bill Gaudette went out of the game in the 42nd minute. The Impact goalkeeper ended up running into his own player Kevin Hatchi and Nicholas Addlery fell on top of Gaudette causing him to catch his ankle awkwardly.
On Tuesday, Radio-Canada’s Philippe Germain reported to IMS that Gaudette’s injury to his ankle is serious enough that it will keep him out between 4-6 weeks. Germain reported that he did not know the exact injury to Gaudette’s ankle but said it could very well be ligament damage.
Evan Bush, who filled in for the remainder of the game for Montreal, will now be called on to be that starter between the pipes.
Steven Sandor at The11.com reported today that Edmonton has even more injury problems. Stalwart central defender Paul Matthijs looks as if he may well miss the rest of the season with a hernia. Sandor reports that he will most likely need surgery and the goal is to get the Dutchman ready to play for 2012.
