US U-18s Draw Mexico 1-1 in Milk Cup – Fail to Qualify for Final
The US U-18s tied Mexico 1-1 yesterday in their second game of the Milk Cup tournament in Northern Ireland. The draw and a record of 1-1-0 eliminates the US from defending their title. Northern Ireland and Denmark will face off in the final. Those teams had identical records to the US but go through on goal differential. The US will play in the 3rd place game on Friday against Georgia.
Mexico took the lead early when they put in a hard and low driven shot on a free kick from 35 yards out. US goalkeeper Cody Cropper was able to drop-save to his left as the ball found its way through traffic, but the rebound came out to Jesús Ruiz who scored from 12 yards out to put Mexico up 1-0 in the 12th minute of play.
D.C. United Academy player Jalen Robinson drew the game even in first half stoppage time. He headed home the equalizer after receiving a corner kick from midfielder Victor Pineda.
