The University of Minnesota Women’s soccer team improved their overall record to 7-8-2 (conference record of 4-3-2) with a 3-1 win over Indiana Friday night in front of 1,181 fans at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium. The Lady Gophers played a high tempo game and dominated Indiana for possession of the ball for a majority of the match. Like the weather, the Gophers were nearly perfect in their play for the full 90 minutes.
The Gophers opened the scoring in the 17th minute after Lauren Bauer intercepted an errant Indiana pass near midfield and quickly played a long ball in to Taylor Uhl who was sprinting down the left flank. After beating a slow and disorganized Indiana back line, Uhl connected a pass to Nicole Baier, who was patiently waiting near the 6-yard line. Baier buried the ball into the back of the Indiana net for her 2nd of the season. The Gophers added their second goal of the evening in the 32nd minute after Shari Eckstrom curled a ball past Indiana goalkeeper Lindsay Campbell, which struck the far post and twisted into the net.
The second half started out with the same fast-paced play by the Gophers, who relentlessly pressed Indiana anytime they lost possession of the ball. Minnesota were also successful in winning countless balls in the midfield. The Gophers, who totaled 22 shots on net compared to Indiana’s six, added their third goal of the night in the 76th minute by freshman Katie Thyken.
Gopher’s goalkeeper Cat Parkhill remained perfect through the 78th minute, when Indiana midfielder Rebecca Dreher connected off a corner kick for Indiana’s only goal of the evening.
The Gophers will next face Purdue on Sunday, October 23, at 1:00pm. The match will be held at Elizabeth Lyle Robbie Stadium.

It was really cool to see a ton of youth soccer players at the match last night!
It was really cool to see such a great turnout for MYSA night. A perfect game to inspire MN youth. Great passing and movement. I thought #11 Josie Solie had many key moments in the midfield winning balls and and great defensive heading. Fleet footed #12 Marissa Price had some amazing 1v1 defensive steals that any player could envy. Go Gophers!
