2011 Minnesota State High School League Soccer Tournament Quarterfinal Results for Girls 1A & 2A

On the last day of the quarterfinals of the 2011 Minnesota State High School League Soccer Tournament, 4 games were played. Two girls 1A and two 2A games.

Girls 1A Quarterfinals

Benilde-St. Margaret’s 3-1 South Saint Paul
At Roseveille High School, #1 ranked Benilde-St. Margaret’s Red Knights, (16-0-3) defeated the South Saint Paul Packers (10-9-0) by a score of 3-1. Anne Arnason fired in the first goal unassisted in the 13th minute of action from 12 yards.

Teammate Maria Michels scored he first of two on the night in the 40th minute with an assist from Peggy Renier. Micheles scored again in the 51st minute after a long throw in by Haley Jerabek.

South St. Paul did get a consolation goal in the last minute of play when Asia Owen was fed a through ball by Anna Barlow.

Totino-Grace 1-0 Saint Peter
In the second match of the evening in Roseville, Minnesota, the Totino-Grace Eagles (13-4-2) defeated the Saint Peter Saints (12-5-3) by a score of 1-0. The Eagles Jennifer Nichasch scored the lone goal in this low scoring affair with an assist by Abigail Welle. Nichasch shot came from just outside the right side of the box.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s will now face Totino-Grace Monday afternoon in the semifinals at the Metrodome with kickoff scheduled for 2:00 p.m.

Girls 2A Quarterfinals

Burnsville Blaze 1-0 Woodbury Royals
The unseeded Burnsville Blaze (16-4-0) upset the #2 seeded Woodbury Royals (15-4-1) on Friday night a Park Cottage Grove. Abby Soderholm was the lone goal scorer in this quarterfinal game. She scored on a free kick from 32 yards out. The goal came in the 49th minute of play.

Centennial Cougars 1-0 Eastview Lightning
In the second game of the night at Park Cottage Grove, the #3 seed Eastview Lightning (13-2-4) were defeated by the Centennial Cougars (17-1-2) by a score of 1-0 after a scoreless game that went through overtime and penalty kick shootouts. Cougars standout forward Jenna Roering missed this game while she is with the USWNT U-18 squad. While the team was without their leading scorer (28 goals) her team stepped up their defense keeping Eastview off the board. It was Centennial’s 3rd shutout during post season play.

The game went though regulation time and overtime before the Cougars Chelsea Weber scored the winning spot kick to send her team through to the semifinals.

Burnsville will take on Centenial on Monday, Oct. 31 at the Metrodome with a 4:00 p.m. kickoff. Roering will be back from her U.S. National Team duties to help her Centenial teammates out for this semifinal match.
