Eight Quarterfinal games in boys 1A and 2A took place in four locations across the State on Thursday evening.

Boys 1A Quarterfinals

In the Boys 1A quarterfinals at Hopkins High School, as reported here at IMS, Prairie Seeds Academy narrowly defeated a feisty St. Paul Humboldt High School by a score of 4-3 with the winner coming three minutes from the end of the first overtime. Adama Keita scored the winner on a penalty kick in the 87th minute.

In the second game of the night at Hopkins, Rochester Lourdes defeated Sartell-St. Stephen by a score of 2-1 after going through nine rounds of penalty kicks to decide the match. Jack Convery for Rochester converted a volley kick to put his side up 1-0 in the 31st minute. In the second half Sartell-St. Stephen’s Tyler Smith-Coppes equalized in the 49th minute. The two teams played through the rest of the second half and two overtimes before moving to spot kicks. It was Rochester Lourdes’ Calvin Kim who finally broke the deadlock hitting the ninth round shot past Sartell keeper Skylar Gardner to win the game for the Eagles.

Prairie Seeds Academy will take on Rochester Lourdes on Monday at the Metrodome at 10:00 a.m. in the boys 1A semifinals.

St. Paul Academy will also be advancing to the semifinals at the dome after defeating Mankato West 2-0 at St. Cloud State University. Spartans’ forward Peter Wood scored in the 6th minute and again in the 80th minute of play to seal the win for SPA.

Benilde-St. Margaret’s tossed  Cloquet-Esko-Carlton from this year’s tournament with a 2-1 win in the second game at St. Cloud. It was CEC who opened the scoring in this match. Landen Straub scored in the 12th minute of action. But Benilde’s Brendan Schember scored just 3 minutes later and Jake Horton got the game winner in the 18th minute.

SPA will face Benilde-St. Margaret on Monday at the Metrodome in the early 8:00 a.m. game in the boys 1A semifinals.

Boys 2A Quarterfinals

At Park Cottage Grove High School, #1 seeded Eastview, Apple Valley defeated Rochester Mayo by a score of 2-1. Mathew Gweh drew first blood for the Lightning in the 9th minute. It was Gweh again in the 28th minute with the game winner. Rochester Mayo’s Derek Herman was able to get the Spartans on the board but it was too little too late as the goal was scored in the 72nd minute.

Minneapolis Southwest has made it back to the semifinals with a dominating 5-1 win over Anoka.  Michael Pulkrabek, Shane Marshall, Mohamud Abdi and Liban Ayanle all scored for Minneapolis Southwest. Senior Mitch Dorale was the only goal scorer for Anoka and the Tornadoes put one in their own goal in the 61st minute that made a bad night even worse.

Eastview will face Mpls. Southwest in the State Semifinals in the Metrodome on Tuesday, November 1st at 2:00 p.m.

At Roseville High School, Maple Grove sent North St. Paul packing after a 2-0 win over the Polars. John Fox scored the game winner in the 8th minute and Kevin Hool scored an insurance goal just 3 minutes later. North St. Paul outshot Maple Grove 15 to 8 and forced the Crimson into 7 saves.

The Eden Prairie Eagles tallied four goals to defeat the Blaine Bengals 4-1 in the second game of the boys 2A quarterfinals in Roseville.  Four different scorers netted goals for the Eagles: Chris Hurst, Abdul Omar, Dane Niemira and Mason Moore. Blaine’s Dalton Cristilly scored a consolation goal for Blaine in the 75th minute.

Maple Grove will now face #3 seed Eden Prairie in the noon semifinal game on Tuesday, November 1st in the Metrodome.

Thanks for posting the game recaps..one correction on the Lourdes victory is that Will Elder is our LHS keeper…so Calvin Kim scored against the Sartell keeper on the 9th pk for the victory. With all 4 top seeds in the semi’s for 1A…it should be a great set of games Monday in the Metrodome.
