Lockhart Field before the big NASL Championship

We are an hour and half from the second leg kick off of the North American Soccer League championship.

It’s been raining hard on and off the last 24 hours but right now Lockhart Stadium is holding up well.

Darren McCartney, Operations Director for the NASL, said Lockhart field has a good sand base and even though it’s been raining hard on and off all day, as long as the field has 10 or 15 minutes to drain it plays well.

A handful of Strikers players as well as the referees for tonight’s game are walking the field preparing for the match.

I’ve been told that the Stars players are looking forward to getting the game kicked off and have a quiet air of confidence about them.

The Strikers also tell me it’s a fast field and it will be a bit faster tonight with the rain. Lightning may be the only thing to delay the game tonight but NASL officials will do everything they can to see the game through to its completion with a champion, either the NSC Minnesota Stars or the Fort Lauderdale Strikers hoisting the trophy.

Wow, clinched the last playoff position and took the whole thing on aggregate. Not bad!
