Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story – Movie Premiere in the Twin Cities on Thursday

2011 November 1
by Brian Quarstad

Rise and Shine is a documentary about the amazing story of Green Bay, Wisconsin native, Jay DeMerit. I think most everyone knows DeMerit’s story by now. The kid who played soccer for the University of Illinois at Chicago wasn’t drafted by MLS so he flew to England and started playing for a seventh-tier side. Jay’s persistence and hard work brought him to the attention of Watford manager Ray Lewington. The rest is history documented in this film, Rise and Shine.

The film was shown in its initial edited stages at locations around the country to garner financial support for the film. Soccer fans from across the U.S. literally helped to raise the funds to pay for the rights to music and video clips that were needed to complete it and distribute it across the country.

The film is now in the can as they say and will be premiered in its completed final cut this Thursday, November 3rd in the Twin Cities at the AMC Roseville 14 from 7:00pm – 8:30pm.

More details can be found on the Facebook page for the Rise and Shine showing in the Twin Cities. There is also a link to pre-purchase tickets.

If you’ve not seen this film or have not seen the final cut of this film, I highly encourage you to see this exclusive Twin Cities screening of Rise and Shine: The Jay DeMerit Story.
