The Last Time USA played France was 1979

It’s been a long time. 32 years to be exact since the U.S. Men’s National Team played the French National Team. In fact, the U.S. played the French twice that year with France winning both contests by a combined total of 9-0, including a 6-0 shutout on May 2, 1979, in E. Rutherford, N.J. In the second game of the home-and-home, France won 3-0 on Oct. 10, 1979, in Paris. Former USMNT defender Ty Keough discussed the experience with ussoccer.com.

Our friend Dave Wasser who runs Davebrett.com, Historic Soccer Videotapes, supplied IMS with this wonderful look at that last game the US played against France. A special thanks to Dave for providing this highlight glimpse of U.S. Soccer history.

Check out the horror tackle from U.S. player Boris Bandov on a much younger Michel Platini.

I was very uninspired by the play of the USA. Quite frankly, I am on the verge of rallying people to support the return of Bradley. The US was unwilling to go forward and attack–against some soccer players from France? I could care less about Donovan not being with the team, or the fact that the match was played in France. We possessed the ball like a bunch of U9 Maroon soccer players. PATHETIC! I think the USMNT will fail to qualify for the 2014 World Cup at the rate we are playing. YUCK!!!
