Kassey Kallman and FSU off to Good Start in NCAA Tournament

Minnesotan Kassey Kallman and her Florida State University women’s soccer team (15-6-1) started off the NCAA Tournament with a 2-0 shutout over Samford (14-6-2) on Friday night. Janice Cayman scored for FSU with the game winner coming in the 58th minute. Just 7 minutes later Tiana Brockway gave the Seminoles an insurance goal. FSU outshot Samford 28-1 for the game.

Kallman and her fellow defenders never allowed a shot in the second half nor did they allow a shot on the Seminole goal the entire game. FSU goalkeeper Kelsey Wys is credited with the shutout.

The Seminoles, who are seeded 1st in their quarter of the women’s NCAA division I bracket, will now advance to the second round of the NCAA Tournament and will face Portland on Friday, November 18.  The Pilots defeated the Oregon State Beavers after a 1-1 draw through two overtimes. The game went to penalty kicks in which Portland prevailed 7-6.
