The last two Minnesota D-3 soccer teams’ seasons came to an end this weekend in the NCAA Tournament. The two remaining teams, St. Benedict’s and Concordia-Moorhead, both members of the MIAC women’s soccer conference, were defeated in Friday’s round of 16 match-ups.

St. Benedict’s, who had previously defeated Carol in shootout penalty kicks and Loras by a score of 2-1, was knocked out of the tournament on Friday in Wheaton, Ill. Washington-St. Louis were the victors by a score of 2-1. Heather Beshears beat junior goalkeeper Clara Jaques to take the lead 1-0 in the 3rd minute of play. The goal for Beshears was her seventh of the season. But the Bears rallied with 2 goals in the final 14 minutes of play for a 2-1 win against St. Benedict. St. Benedict’s ends the season with a 13-6-3 record.

Concordia-Moorhead had defeated the University of Puget Sound last weekend in a PK shootout. Then they beat UC Santa Cruz 2-1 to advance to the round of 16. But the Cobbers’ season ended on Friday night in Ithaca, NY., being shutout by SUNY Cortland by a score of 2-0. Cocordia-Moorhead finish their 2011 season with a 13-3-6 record.
