Mukwelle Akale Injured in U.S. U-17 Scrimmage with Seattle Sounders

Minnesota’s 15-year-old Mukwelle Akale only played 5 minutes in a scrimmage against the Seattle Sounders last Thursday. But 5 minutes was long enough to allow him one of the best attacks on the Sounders of the scrimmage, and long enough to see him clipped in the ankle. The injury will put him out of commission for several weeks while he rehabs.

Mukwelle is back at home in Minnesota for a scheduled break that all U.S. U-17 Bradenton Academy players are on. Mukwelle will continue his rehab and hopes to be training again in several weeks.

Soccer America recently featured Akale in an article using information and a quote from an earlier IMS article posted in December.

Watch for Mukwelle (#16 for the U-17s) at about the halfway point of this video as he dribbles through the Sounder defense before passing off and following up with a poke toward goal. Mukwelle was injured shortly afterwards.

At least its not a broken bone. He’ll bounce back quick.
