@Mickey - I've heard from some supporters group members down here who knew Shriver and spoke to him that he did indeed request the trade in order to pursue further studies at UNC. If you're Traffic, at the end of the day, what should it matter to you which of your teams he's playing on, plus you're keeping him happy which they seem to want to do since they see him as a valuable asset, and they made what one would assume was a fair trade compensation wise to the Strikers.

More clearly though, I think it is just another in a recent string of events showing that Traffic is indeed out in South Florida, and is repositioning themselves in Cary.

@Jim - I can only speculate of course, but to me, budget cuts for the Strikers mean Traffic's money is no longer their main financial support, at at the very least it has been greatly reduced. Meanwhile, in Atlanta and Cary, the seem to be plugging along quite nicely. Think abuot the guys who had the biggest contracts last year - Chacho, probably Arrieta, Abe - Chacho was gone for sure anyway, but with the exception of Herron, the Strikers player moves so far kind of give the feeling of reigning in payroll. Abe was hired for double duty as a forward (mostly off the bench you'd assume) and as assistant coach. The team saved money there. The Traffic personnel who were working for the Strikers are gone. The deal with the FAA is, I'm certain, going to cost them more money this year than last year. Even Coach Shore has not officially signed a new contract, most likely due to haggling over money I'd imagine as he is now pretty much running personnel for the team besides being head coach as well.

I believe Tim Robbie now is controlling this team completely, and that until he finds a new investor or investors to bring in with him, he's doing the best he can to keep costs down while still trying to put out a product that lives up to the Strikers brand. Just my take on what I've seen and heard...

@Mickey, I also heard that from the Miami Ultra's podcast. Also, from the interview conducted with Tim Robbie, he made it sound as if there was some particular reason that Shriver was leaving and it would be made clear in the press release. It was not. It does make sense if Shriver went to school there, was familiar with that area, was accepted back into school there and then with the budget cuts of the Strikers, he would want to head to Carolina.

Did Shriver leave Florida because he got accepted to grad school or something in NC? Weird way to force a transfer/signing, but this is the D2 in America. Got to play it safe as a player.

@StrikersReturn,

I agree with you that it seems that Traffic is back to their old Miami FC days. Last year seemed like they did so many things right with the rebranding. Now - it's just quiet.

I do like some of the signings they made - Lorenz, and this new forwards could be good. I initially felt really bad that Shriver was going to the Railhawks and thought - oh boy, the Railhawks are the new team for Traffic. But, considering that Shriver was the one the asked to be moved - I'm not sure they could have gotten much more than some cash and future considerations.

How are the promotions going for the season? That's the biggest thing I want to hear about. It just seems too quiet as I said.

Tim Robbie is the only thing making me not panic about the Strikers at this point. I do think he's good. If he leaves - then I'll panic.

Someone please try to convince me that Traffic hasn't already pulled out of South Florida, despite what Mr. Robbie said in BQ's recent interview. It's painfully obvious their money and their players are leaving town. I really hope Tim has lined up new investors already, or we're going to be the whipping boys of the league, or just trying to grind out 1 - 0 wins.

Like the move to bring Abe in as player/asst. coach. But again, I think this was at least partly cost driven. Our MF is still a shambles, and we're going to rely on Herron a LOT to score goals up front if they don't have any other signings in the works. Santamaria looked like he had promise, but Traffic plucked him out of FTL, and it'll be interesting to see where he winds up. Quinones, eh, based on the limited time he saw last year, no great loss there.

All that said, I'm still looking forward greatly to being able to see the season get underway. It's been too long!!!

ONE preseason game?! I know that the budget is tight and that things are likely hectic at the Stars' league-run head office, but one tune up match? A lot of their financial success this season is going to depend on the quality of the product they put on the field that first night at the Dome--and that's IF they can pack in as many as they hope to.
This honestly worries me. Are they scrimmaging against local clubs at least? Colleges? High schools?
