The Stars FC made several more roster moves on Wednesday. The team released former LA Galaxy player Ely Allen who had been with the team for two years making 37 appearances and gathering 3 goals and 2 assists along the way. The often injured player showed quality when on the field but struggled to find playing time towards the end of the season and logged in only 731 minutes in 2011. The team would not comment on specifics of why Allen was released.

Minnesota also announced the signing of two players, defender Edi Buro and midfielder Miguel Ibarra. Buro is a defensive midfielder who the Stars hope can help them build some depth on the back line and in the midfield. The Bosnia and Herzegovina native moved to the Twin Cities as a youth and played division 3 college soccer for Hamline University. He returned to Bosnia to play for NK Travnik of the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina before returning to Minnesota.

Ibarra played for the University of California, Irvine before being selected as a supplemental pick for the Portland Timbers but was later released. He earned First Team All American honors after scoring nine goals and tallying eight assists for the Anteaters in 2011.

After the 2011 season the Stars initially picked up the option on 17 players who they had signed to multiyear contracts. Currently the Stars have only signed 13 of those players. Several players are back on the squad after signing new contracts or extensions.

Lucas Rodriguez: The guy is the Energizer bunny! He is always moving at a million miles a minute…and keeps going. One of my favorite moments from last season are his goals against Carolina in the semi-finals. I swear they hacked off all four of his limbs and were trying to take his shirt, yet he kept running up the field and creating opportunities. Rest up and get back on the pitch soon, buddy!

Andy Lorei: Glad to see he is back. I was impressed with his work ethic last year on the training pitch. Although he saw limited playing time, he was always one of the first players on the pitch and the last to leave. From what I saw, he also gave it all when he was training. Andy did an excellent job doing color commentary with Chris Lidholm for the fantasy camp match. It sounds like he is working on some great ideas to get some butts in the seats.

“Jack Stewart was traded to the Fort Lauderdale Strikers for forward/midfielder Tino Nunez.” Wasn’t he traded for MARTIN Nunez?

I hope Gotsmanov comes back, he was a pretty solid piece for us.
