NASL Podcast Episode #25 – Interview with Atlanta Silverbacks Head Coach Alex Pineda Chacón

2012 March 27

Welcome to episode #25 of the IMSoccer News North American Soccer League Podcast.

In the upcoming weeks, Gerry Wittmann , Jay (Yankiboy) Long, and yours truly, Brian Quarstad, will be interviewing all 8 NASL head coaches.

This week Jay, Gerry and I talk to Atlanta Silverbacks head coach Alex Pineda Chacón.

Chacón spent most of his years playing in his home country of Honduras for Club Olimpia. He also spent time playing in both Mexico and Peru, eventually moving to the US to play in Major League Soccer for four different teams, making nearly 60 appearances. In his first year with the Miami Fusion in 2001, Chacón had a career year, scoring 19 goals and 9 assists and led MLS in both goals and points and won the league MVP award.

Chacón also made many appearances for his Honduran National Team where he played in both the 1993 and 2000 CONCACAF Gold Cups.

Coach Chacón was assistant coach on last year’s Atlanta Silverbacks team who were “back” after being gone from the league for two years. The Silverbacks named him head coach in the off-season and through the winter Chacón has been working hard to bolster up a team that had a good foundation but lacked the depth to earn or hold onto points in the later parts of matches.

Please join Jay, Gerry and me as we talk to coach Alex Pineda Chacón about this year’s roster, preseason training and his style of play.

Atlanta seems to be doing a lot of things right in the offseason. It will be interesting to see how they do once they get on the pitch.
