The Atlanta Silverbacks released their 2012 custom kits and clothing line on Tuesday night at a special event in Atlanta, Georgia created to unveil the home and away uniforms.

The kit created by Reto, meaning “challenge” in Spanish, is a spin-off of SAETA USA who the team used for last year’s kit.

The 2012 home jersey was actually designed from scratch by fan Adrian Portillo. His design along with many others from Silverbacks supporters were voted on in Facebook to determine the winner. Portillo’s was the winning design and Reto set out to create the custom kit that has now been revealed.

The shirt uses the traditional Silverbacks red with black hoops but only on the front. It also features piping and highlights of gray. The shorts will be black with red trim.

The away kit will be a gray shirt with gray trunks and socks. The away kit also features black side panels with thin black horizontal hoops.

Silverbacks spokesperson Neil Malone said that Reto has even launched a store at Silverbacks Park that is open 7 days a week and will feature many of the Silverbacks new line of clothing. Those designs were also revealed on Tuesday evening and included warmups, polos, t-shirts, hoodies and even a cap featuring a new ATL signature logo that represents Atlanta soccer. Malone said the new logo is designed to draw in not only the soccer supporter but also the non-soccer fan who may just like the look of the logo and clothing.

New ATL logo.

Malone explained that the new line of clothing that Reto has produced has quadrupled what the team had previously.

If Tuesday night’s party holds any indications, the team expects the new product line to be very popular this year. According to Malone, sales were more than brisk as Reto and the team had to work hard to keep up to the demand as product sold quickly.

Many items from the Silverbacks’ new line of clothing is already available online at the team’s website.

Really dig both jerseys and the new ATL logo.

Odd for them to go to hoops when they haven’t used those before, but they look sharp.

I don’t mind the hoops and ya, maybe a one off with the hoops since it was part of the contest winners design. But who knows, perhaps they will keep them.

I too like the new ATL logo smatthew. Very nice wordmark type logo that can be a conversation starter and appeal to a broader audience. Smart move.

I like the sound of their away kit because I still cannot understand for the life of me why a team called the “Silverbacks” doesn’t have a “silver” back on their kit. It would be like the Red Sox wearing green socks or the Cleveland Browns (Even though I know it was named for a man named Paul Brown) not wearing Brown. In the animal named teams, it would be like the Cardinals wearing purple or the Blue Jays not wearing… well, you get the idea.

Love the new kits! But the real highlight is that ‘atl’ wordmark. If they can get them into hat shops, they’ll fly off the shelves. Even people who don’t know about the team will want that hat.

El Padre, I’ve always wondered that about their kits myself.

I gotta hant it to the Silverbacks–That ATL logo on the caps is kinda crunk, y’all. That’s the kinda logo that might catch on down in da Dirty Dirty with cats who could care less about soccer but dig the lid. They need to give one of those joints to some local rappers so they can rock ‘em (yes, I still have my fascination for street marketing). If TI, Lil Jon, Ludacris or Yung Joc was rockin’ that cap, they would BLOW UP! Neal and company need to just start giving those things out to rappers down there. That cap might be too “urban” for the (stereo)typical Atlanta SIlverbacks fan but they seemed to have captured one of the vibes of the city with that logo.

The “ATL” logo is pretty fresh. Doesn’t really go at all with the very “minor league” look of their primary crest. Maybe a full brand revamp is in order for 2013.

I love the new kits too, but maybe that’s because they look so much like the Strikers 2012 shirts lol (hoops on the home, horizontal pinstripes on the away). Classy though.

With these, the Strikers, San Antonio, and some presumably retro-awesome Rowdies shirts, the NASL is looking sharp so far for 2012.

I think NASL kits probably look more vibrant and distinct than MLS right now. I was hoping Montreal would add something different to the league when they made their jump, but their jersey unveiling ended up being a disappointment. ATL is looking legit this year.

“I think NASL kits probably look more vibrant and distinct than MLS right now. ”

You are basing this on what, 3 or 4 NASL kits? MLS has 19 clubs. More than 10 have great distinct and vibrant kits.

Hmm, I count six 2012 MLS kits max that I’d qualify as “distinct and vibrant”: DC United, LA Galaxy, Philly Union (w/out the BIMBO on the front), Portland Timbers, Red Bulls, and Seattle Sounders

I don’t mean to be a Debbie Downer, but everyone seems to be going with the hoops. We should just call them the “Copybacks.” The year of the ugly kit continues…

    I think they look fantastic.

This is turning into a real “hoop” league, especially if FCE put out a Orange/White hooped third jersey again like last year.

    Love it.

One more thing. I really hate the collars on soccer kit tops. Yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck, yuck!!!

What a great jersey and clothing line! Well done Atlanta! Can’t wait for the roadtrip up there this year. Ready to outsing their supporters… AGAIN ;)
