^There's a difference between "too seriously" (eg: Organization X" is killing soccer in this country! or "Organization Y is the only one that should be running professional soccer in this country!") and just busting some chops in my book.

You're not alone in having found the banter to be entertaining (so I guess that makes two of us).

Browsers do have spell checks--that's true. I'm just usually not smart enough or motivated enough to figure out to use them.

Besides, typos are pretty much one of my trademarks. Kina like poor humor. Both the typos and humor need improvement but that if they both improved then people might all of the sudden thinking I was an imposter, posting as myself or that I somehow had started to take myself more seriously.

The NASL vs USL rivalry thing can grate my nerves sometimes too when people take it too seriously.

On the real, Playah--Maximum respect for giving us your ROC take.

I'd love for you to write an editorial about why you think that support of the Rhinos appears (key word) to have plummetted over the last few years. I think a lot of people would both enjoy and appreciate your perspective.

I apologize for getting defensive. But in truth, it was a poor joke.

Parking is contracted out and at 5$ a car, they do pretty well for themselves.

And logically, knowing that they aren't going to draw a full crowd on a Tuesday night during the school year against an amateur team (just like last year), the organization isn't going to have the stadium fully staffed.

But even by your own fuzzy (albeit generous) math, the numbers still come out as a profit. Even if there is a low turnout, it's still in Clark's and the Rhinos' best interests to host the match. I don't think the "hassle" would ever outweigh a small profit when fans have come to expect that the team will host their cup matches.

Also playah, browsers have built in spell checkers.

I got upset because the institutional rivalry between NASL and USL is stupid and detracts from the sport in this country. I've seen you (or someone posing as you) posting helpful comments on other places and shouldn't have jumped to conclusions. I'm sorry about that bit, dude.

Hey there, Brendan.

Thanks for the typo assist, my Man. Since I try and refrain from profanity, I'm going to substitute your s word for another one: I'll use "silly".

My "silly logic" was just jesting at the reality that if the turnout is poor the operating expenses might make it just easier to put the Rhinos on the bus for them to head to Brookly and back.

Yes, Mr. Clark is very well known for watching his bottom line. So, yep, that reputation was part of my take.

I can only imaginge that in additiion to firing up the grills that there are some the staffing and other expenses such as (electrical, water--but I could most definitely be wrong about that--I'm not privileged (hope I didn't botch that time, Playah) to have that info.

I'll differ to your knowledge--it's gotta be way better than mine (hey-everybody's usually is). Maybe the club doesn't have to pay utility expenses at the stadium.

It's fantastic that the Rhinos succeeded in drawing 1300 for the match with Phoenix last year. Even if the tickets had been offered for free (and I'm not insinuating or suggesting in any way that that they were)--that is a fantastic draw, especially given the opponent.

There have been a lot of times in the past that higher seeded clubs (especially in MLS) have either been reluctant to host or avoided hosting home USOC matches.

My math is terrible but let's just toss this out there for discussion's sake:

at $12 a ticket (pretty sure that some of the tickets were included in season ticket packages, but again, I could be way off on that one)

X 1300

Before concessions (being really generous with the amount (again because of the fact that a lot of thos tickets were probably included in the season ticket packages), that's $15,600?

I'm just gonna throw out a staffing number from thin air (ok, based on a couple of my visits to Sahlens/PAETEC/Marina Auto/Rhinos Stadium):

50 people, paid $60 each for working the night. Ticket folks, ushers, parking, security, EMT expense. Let's just conservatively put that at 3,000.

Again--using my imagination and subpar logic, adding to it Mr. Clark's reputation for being very focused on his bottom line--I mused that it might have been more appealing to forego the hassle. Maybe I'm the only one would possibly question whether or not the profit would be worth it or not.

By the wayI singled out the ROC because it is an interesting market. Like Clark, enigmatic in many ways. I'm very appreciative to all of the Rochester folks who share their insights about what is going on there these days.

Thanks again for responding to my silly logic and the non-starting argument.

My apologies for my typos. Like Mr. Clark's rep for being very astute when it comes to operating expenses, my inadvertant love affair with typos (along with poor gramar) are just something that I am known for.

Hi there, Yankiboy.
What are you talking about?
"The exception might be Mr. Rob Clark. He might figure that it would be cheaper for him to just put his Rhino’s squad on a bus headed east than incur the expenses for the “privelage” of hosting the match with the Brooklyn Italians if their fellow Empire Staters can get a win up in Maine."

There is no fee for hosting in Round 2. The only expenses are opening up the stadium and heating up the grills. I know Clark has a reputation for cutting corners or whatever, penny pinching or something. But I don't really get what you're talking up. Sorry, but none of that makes sense. The organization wouldn't have bid if they didn't think they could get a result. Last year we drew around 1300 for the amateur round against Phoenix SC. I don't think the turn up would be drastically lower than that. But even if it is, the team is going to turn a profit. I just really don't know why you would single out the Rhinos or Clark with shitty logic and a non-starting argument.

Also, privilege.*

Ok. This is clearly the "Fraudulent Star" hater in me... but how much smack would the Orlando City crew have if the Rowdies managed to not get past the Orlando U-23's if the two should meet?

How ironic would that be?

It's not so much the fact that an NASL club fell to a PDL club--hey, it happens--that's what makes this sort of tournament great. It's just that those two particular Central Florida rivals finally meeting and Tampa going town to what I will losely refer to as the Orlando City JV.

Orlando has to get past Jacksonville first...

By the way--I'm lovin' this coin flip thing. It's too bad for the team that has to travel unless their players get a kick out of going somewhere new--I'd pretty much figure that the travel doesn't bother the amateur clubs as much as it might be considered a burden for the pro clubs.
