NASL Podcast Episode #36 with Special Guest: Independent Weekly Soccer Writer, Neil Morris

2012 June 27

Welcome to episode #36 of the IMSoccer News North American Soccer League Podcast.

This week Gerry Wittmann, Jay (Yankiboy) Long, and yours truly, Brian Quarstad, interview Independent Weekly writer Neil Morris about the hottest team in the NASL at the current time, the Carolina RailHawks. The RailHawks are 6-1-0 in all competitions over the last 6 weeks after a dreadful start to their season. The RailHawks are climbing out of the cellar of the league and Morris tells us how that has happened and who is making a difference in turning things around.

Gerry, Jay and I also talk about the two cellar dwellers, the Atlanta Silverbacks who currently have a minus 13 goal differential and have leaked 27 goals this season, and FC Edmonton who have scored only 1 goal in the month of June.

We ask the question, is coach Alex Pineda Chacón in trouble? And what else is going on down in Atlanta? We keep seeing reports of sellouts but fans from the area keep talking about Silverbacks Stadium not being anywhere close to sold out?

FC Edmonton’s management believed they had one of the best rosters in the NASL to start the season. Were they correct? Are the players underachieving? Will we start hearing again that the Canadian talent pool just isn’t good enough, or is this a case of coaching?

We also ask are the San Antonio Scorpions the real thing? Will we see them in the top two or three teams in the league at the end of the season?
