2012 June 30
by Brian Quarstad

Stefanie Golan was named the new head coach of the University of Minnesota Gopher Women’s Soccer Program on Wednesday. Golan, who is 33 years 0ld, comes to the Gophers after 3 years as head coach of the Army’s Black Knights at the West Point Military Academy where she compiled a 33-18-10 overall record making her one of the more successful young women coaches in the country.

Golan talked to IMSoccer News on Saturday morning, just days after being named the new coach of the Gophers. She tells us that she “can’t wait until she can hit the ground running.” She will need to do that and more with only a month to make contact with all of her current players, incoming freshman, new recruits for 2013 and make a decision on her assistant coaches. All this with just 31 days before the Gophers hit the pitch for their first preseason training session.

The daughter of an All-American goalkeeper at the Air Force Academy, Golan tells us that soccer has been in her blood since she was young and the intensity and work ethic of her father has shaped the person she is today.
