Seattle Sounders and Sporting KC Advance to 2012 US Open Cup Final

The Seattle Sounders defeated Chivas USA 4-1 and Sporting KC beat the Philadelphia Union 2-0 to advance the winners to the 2012 US Open Cup Final to be played Aug. 8 at LIVESTRONG Sporting Park in Kansas City, Kan.
Sporting KC knocked off the Union 2-0 on Wednesday evening at PPL Park in Philadelphia. Jacob Peterson and Graham Zusi each scored in the 2nd half to advance their team to the final. Peterson’s goal in the 65th minute came after a Zusi free kick. The forward headed in the free kick for the game winner. Zusi’s assurance goal game 3 minutes into added time of the second half.
This will be the second time that Kansas City has advanced to the USOC Championship. They are now 2-1-0 in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup semifinals.
The Seattle Sounders soundly defeated Chivas USA 4-1 on Wednesday night at Starfire Sports Complex in Tukwila, Wash. Goals by Eddie Johnson, Osvaldo Alonso, Brad Evans and Sammy Ochoa made sure the team will make their fourth straight US Open Cup championship. Seattle has high hopes of becoming the first team-ever in the tournament’s 99-year history to win the title four years in a row and are now the third team-ever to appear in four straight finals.
