Rowdies and Stars Each Sign Player to Bolster Rosters for Stretch Run
The Minnesota Stars FC have signed a player who has been participating in their training sessions most of the season. Nate Polak, a 22-year-old forward from Division 3 Hastings College has been signed until the end of the season with contract options for 2013 and 2014.
The 6′ 2″ Polak was a fourth round selection in last winter’s Major League Soccer Supplemental Draft by the New York Red Bulls. In three seasons with Hastings, Polak recorded 43 goals and 30 assists, earning first-team All Great Plains Athletic Conference honors twice and a spot on the 2011 NAIA All American team. He was a part of a team that won the 2010 NAIA National Championship and finished second the following season.
“Nate’s been training with us and working really hard, and bringing him in gives us another opportunity to continue to get better,” said head coach Manny Lagos.
The Tampa Bay Rowdies announced on Friday that they have signed former Atlanta Silverbacks midfielder, Raphael Cox, pending league approval.
Cox who is originally from Tacoma, Washington, was drafted in the fourth round of the 2009 MLS SuperDraft by Real Salt Lake. In the 2009 season, Cox made six MLS appearances for RSL, scoring one goal.
After a year in the USL Premier Development League, Cox signed with the Atlanta Silverbacks in 2011. The 26-year-old appeared in 43 league matches over a span of two seasons with Atlanta. In his time there, he scored four goals and recorded four assists.
