2012 September 4

Kealia Ohai celebrates her 70th minute assurance goal for the US.

The United States Women advanced to the finals of the FIFA U-20 Soccer World Cup this morning with a 2-0 win over Nigeria. Morgan Brian scored in the 22nd minute and Kealia Ohai scored an assurance goal in the 70th.

The victory provides the US their third trip to the final with the team winning the tournament in 2002 and 2008.

The US will have to bring their best game when they face off against Germany in the final, as Germany defeated hosts Japan 3-0 in the other semifinal match. Germany has swept through the tournament with a 5-0-0 record and have outscored their opponents 15-0, including a 3-0 thumping of the Americans.

“It was a difficult match physically,” U.S. coach Steve Swanson said. “Nigeria gave us all we could handle and a little more. Getting that first goal was key for us.”

The final will take place on Saturday, Sept. 8, at Tokyo National Stadium. Live coverage begins at 6:20 a.m. ET on ESPNU and ESPN3.
