Minnesota State High School Soccer Rankings for 9-24-12

2012 September 26
by Brian Quarstad

Records and personal bests have been set by both players and coaches in this year’s Minnesota State High School Leagues soccer season. Pete Hayes, who is in his 25th year as head coach for the Anoka boys soccer team, notched his 300 career win on September 4th.

State soccer standout Jenna Roering scored the quickest goal in her school’s history in a 3-1 Centennial win over Mounds View on September 8th. Roering scored her goal just nine seconds into the match.

Minneapolis South’s Elliot Cassutt, whom IMS has written numerous stories about after breaking the state scoring record (46 goals) in his sophomore year, scored 10 goals in a single game in a 18-0 shellacking of Minneapolis Henry on September 18th.

Meanwhile, the Minnesota State High School Soccer Coaches Association (MSHSSCA) released their coaches poll on Sunday night, September 23rd. The short Minnesota high school soccer season is nearing completion with only two full weeks left of regular season play. This year’s elite teams are showing their superiority by rising to the top of their conferences and are being rewarded with rankings from MSHSL coaches.

Brian- you may need to update team records and subsequent rankings.

Appreciate you keeping us informed about soccer in the Twin Cities!

I believe you have the incorrect rankings. St Paul Como is currently 11-0 is never lost a game and beat St Paul Central and yet Central’s in the ranking. Please fix this . Thanks.

Thanks to all those who realize I had (I think) last weeks polls up and inaccurate win/loss records. Here is the issue:

I am given this information from the MSHSSCA. I totally appreciate what they do as this is a volunteer organization of coaches who love the sport and put far more into it then they are getting paid for. With that said, the information comes in for the four separate rankings in 3 different formats. Email, Word and Excel and except for the email version most don’t play nice with WordPress which my site is built on so reformatting has to be done to all of the information. Some of the lists the prior weeks rankings as well some don’t, and some have team record and others don’t.

Of course I think including all that information is the most interesting but is it’s not listed its a lot of work to compile and then format for the site. Plus, my findings is that the conference websites are about the only place that keeps the records current and I do not have the time to go to hunt down each conference and find the record. Often times the MSHSL site isn’t even up to date and today, I pulled all this information off the Star Tribune site which was evidently a HUGE mistake I won’t make again.

So I have gone back to the information sent to me from the MSHSSCA and simplified it for speed of getting it up on on the site correctly.

Lastly, if anyone wants to volunteer to do this each week for IMS the job is yours and it pays well as you get your name on each article after it’s posted. ;)

Why would a coach allow one player to score 10 goals when they totally outclass an opponent and win by 18-0?

I agree with MarcoT, what a classless act by a coach in high school sports….if you can use the title…..coach……

Not sure why you don’t just go to mn soccerhub It’s run by the Strib and is the most accurate and up to date, plus they post lots of player features.

@Chuck P & Marco T – the beautiful mistress known as karma can be a real b!tch at payback time.

What I find plain funny is that why wouldn’t this be considered a form of bullying. Everything else in schools seemed to be labeled that when it offends someone….. and remember you can’t be offended unless you allow yourself to be offended.

How did the top 2 Class AA teams (LVN and Eastview) lose to A teams in the same week? That’s either a huge fluke or good news for the level of play at A schools. Seems like AA is heading towards the top teams getting to the playoffs. Section 2aa looks like the most open with Eden Prairie, Burnsville, and Prior Lake potentials. Should be a fun finish to the year!
