Another good show gents. I feel your pain yanki on crashing and burning out of the playoffs this year. As you guys mentioned though, Striker Likers weren’t surprised by the result for us unfortunately. I don’t think we can overstate the effect losing Restrepo had on this team. While he was in, Restrepo led the league in assists, and Anderson was second in goals scored. We had no one to replace him, and actually it appeared Shore was trying to use Anderson in Restrepo’s role. It just didn’t work. Plus Herron was being counted on to score a lot of goals for us, and between injuries and suspensions he just missed too many games.
Unfortunately I have had to get to the point of agreeing with yanki on Stahl. Somehow he was just a completely different player this year. Going into the season I thought our back line would be one of the strengths of the team, but it was certainly not the case. No cohesion, poor communication, and just a lot of terrible mistakes plagued them all year. I’ve been assured by people in the organization that there will be a point made of improving our onfield talent next year. In fact I’ve been told it’s one of the main reasons for the split schedule, having the flexibility to make a lot of changes between the “half seasons.” I’m skeptical, but we’ll see I guess.
If you all go back to the last show posting, you’ll see I was the only one who predicted a Stars victory. The Stars have played the Scorpions very close this year, and I expect a very good semi series between these teams. Same goes for Carolina and Tampa.
SR, as ALWAYS, thanks for enthusiastic and unwavering support of the podcast; Brian works incredibly hard preparing for and doing the post-production that is required to make the podcast a reality.
Yeah, I feel your underachievement and utter disillusionment pain. Unfortunately.
Soccer Boy predicted a 2-1 Stars victory over on usl discussions. I read yours first but I have to give him his “propers”, as well.
Yankiboy, you have made my day. Thanks for the acknowledgement!
Great info and interview with Mr. Sandors. At mid-season, I had Saiko pegged as a potential MVP candidate. He dropped big time off that list in the second half not by a lack of effort on the pitch, but due solely to a lack in playing time. Whenever the guy was on the pitch he seemed to make things happened. Sadly, Sinkgraven played him at the last Stars/Eddies match…and Saiko scored in the 90th minute to give the Eddies a point with the draw.
As a D2 soccer fan, you never want to see a team get kicked around like the Eddies did…especially toward the end. However, I think it was more a case of the ownership giving the coach too much control of a team and essentially left the ship sinking.
PS: I have my NASL Finals prediction written down already. I will choose the right time to disclose it! Hint: It involves the only two D2 teams that I have shirts from.
Very nice podcast! Great to hear Steven Sandor! You could definitely ‘hear’ Yankiboy’s sorrow! Don’t worry, your Islanders will be coming back strong next season. Thanks guys!
