Minnesota Vikings and Twins Lend Support to Stars FC for Championship Match

The Minnesota Stars claimed the inaugural NASL Championship Soccer Bowl trophy in 2011
For the second year in a row, the Minnesota Stars FC are in the NASL 2-legged Championship series coming into the tournament as a 6th seed. And for the second year in a row, major league sports franchises in the Twin Cities have lent a helping hand to support the Division 2 Stars who are reigning NASL Champions.
This year, both the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings pitched in to support the NASL team by purchasing 500 tickets apiece. Those 1000 tickets were free to the public and went in the first 24 hours according to Stars CEO Djorn Buchholz.
“We’re excited to be in the championship series for the second year in a row, and once again we’re amazed at the support that other local sports teams have shown us,” Buchholz said. “We would like to thank the Minnesota Twins and Minnesota Vikings organizations for presenting this opportunity for our fans—and hopefully new fans—to attend the first game of the finals and help us defend our 2011 championship.”
Buchholz told IMS that they have been so busy between regular ticket sales and the ticket giveaways that they have not yet had time to know where exactly they are at with total tickets sold.
Tickets for this home leg of the Championship series, at the NSC Stadium at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday night, can be purchased by calling (763) 792-7355 or by emailing tickets@mnstarsfc.com
Finals tickets are on sale at the same prices as the regular season. Tickets purchased prior to noon on Saturday will be sold at advanced ticket prices. After noon Saturday, walk-up pricing will apply and tickets will only be available at the NSC Stadium box office beginning at 6 p.m. on game day. Pricing is as follows:
- Youth General Admission: $6 in advance/$8 walk-up
- Adult General Admission: $12 in advance/$14 walk-up
- Reserved with chairback: $17 in advance/$20 walk-up
- Pitchside: $25 in advance/$30 walk-up

That is a classy thing to do on the part of the Twins & Vikings. I hope that the Stars win and that maybe the ownership of the Twins or Vikings are convinced at what a bargain it is to buy a repeat chamion in the NASL.
Awesome!
That is all.
It’s great that the big guys stepped up.
Maybe the mainstream media will notice the Stars. Soccer teams are sort of the Repulicans of sports. The mainstream media covers them the same way. Coverage seems to be mainly bad things that happen or really good things that happen . This is a really good thing.
I would be really awesome if the Wild, Timberwolves, Swarm, Lynx, and Saints all got involved.
@ETCH. Well said! I’ve been saying same last couple years. Instead of covering and promote local sports but there’s a whole hour on High School Football Hilights and less then 30 second on high school soccer and other sports combine. No Disrespect to High School Football
No love from the Wild? They are actually saving money by not having a season.
Very nice of the Twins & Vikings. Hopefully the Wilfs take note….fingers crossed. Yes it’d be great if other sports clubs got involved. Wolves & Wild can definitely afford it also.
