Inter Milan – 2010 UEFA Champions

65 soccer supporters gathered at the Sweetwater Bar and Grille in St. Paul to watch Inter Milan defeat Bayern Munich 2-0 for the UEFA Champions League Final.

Throw the statistics out the window because Jose Mourinho and his squad of Inter Milan players don’t really care. The “Special One” once again did what he had done previously at Chelsea Football Club in England and brought a group of talented players together and taught them discipline on defense and patience on offense. ‘Wait for your chances and make good on them’ could be Mourinho’s mantra.

In classic Mourinho style, Inter Milan defeated a worthy opponent in Bayern Munich to win the 2010 UEFA final, 2-0 even though the German side dominated all the statistics. Both goals came on classic counter attacks with quality of touches and individual genius in the forward play of Inter’s Diego Alberto Milito.

The Argentinean Milito scored both goals for Inter zigging and zagging and cutting his way through the Bayern defense on the second goal. The first goal was the classic example of first touch and Milito setting his touch up in a way that he was able to fake a shot and still stay at pace with the fast moving ball. The Inter forward calmly side footed the ball around Bayern keeper Hans-Jörg Butt who had bought the set step and planted, freezing the Bayern keeper.

All in all it was a fine final with a rapid pace and lots of end-to-end action until Bayern dominated the last 20 minutes of play.
