USA World Cup Away Kit Confirmed

Nike unveiled several teams’ World Cup Kits today in London. None other than Clint Dempsey modeled the US kit, which may have been one of the first public sightings of Dempsey since he damaged his posterior ligament  in January.

“It’s going good,” said Dempsey at the Nike reveal.  “I’m back running now and looking to be playing games in mid March.”

Nike explained at the event that each jersey is made from 8 recycled water bottles. Supporters will be able to purchase the traditional shirt or the one made from water bottles. Both versions will be priced the same. The bottles are taken from Japanese and Taiwanese landfills, melted and processed into the new fabric used for the breathable jersey. Nike states that they can cut energy costs by 30% by using the recycled material.

The away kits will be available immediately with home and third kits not available until May 1st.

Detailed shots of the jersey can be seen here. A better photo of the away jersey can be seen here along with what many believe will be the home and the 3rd kit.

2010 USA Away Jersey

It’s pretty obvious that these kits are modeled after the 1950 World Cup jersey which also had a large sash running across it. The USA arguably had their most famous World Cup victory ever in that tournament when they defeated England 1-0 in Brazil on June 29, 1950.  When the US steps on the field at Royal Bafokeng in Rustenburg, South Africa on June 12, it will be the first time the US has faced England in a World Cup since that fateful day 60 years ago.
