Can Anyone Stop Juventus?

European football continues to serve as the pinnacle of the beautiful game, and that’s pretty much a universal thought process. At this moment in time it really does feel like things are just going to keep getting better and better as the years go on, mainly because the standard of football just seems to be going up and up.

In the present day English football is reigning supreme over Europe, and while that may be the case right now, it really doesn’t feel as if that’s going to last for an eternity. In fact, it doesn’t even feel like it’s going to last beyond next season.

The future, from the past?

Bayern Munich, Barcelona, Real Madrid and even PSG are four clubs that instantly come to mind when you think of who could dethrone them in the next few years. They all have a pretty good infrastructure, and to be honest, we aren’t even thinking about the future clubs that could rise up through the ranks. These guys are established, they know how to re-build, and they know how to take the ‘next step’ up the ladder.

But the side that we’re thinking of beyond all others is Juventus. The Italian giants have been sat on top of their domestic landscape for quite some time now, winning more consecutive league titles than we know how to count.

In the present day, though, Juventus are known for something else: and something that some would suggest is even greater and bigger than the club itself. We’re talking about Cristiano Ronaldo, who has the ability to render the majority of Europe redundant. Of course, he’s in his mid-30s these days, and as good as he may be, they always need to be looking to the future in order to see what else is out there.

Building something special

These reports from Calciomercato and Goal.com serve as two of the many, many examples of rumours regarding The Old Lady’s transfer dealings during the summer. There’s absolutely no guarantee that they’re going to land even half of the players they’ve been linked with, but in truth, it only takes one. It only takes one to reignite that belief that they can take over Europe, and in our mind, they’re already there.

They were somewhat unlucky to go out of the competition this time around, and in some ways, you could argue that Ajax just wanted it more on the day. There’s always the argument that European football doesn’t necessarily define the success or failure of any given team, too, and given their Serie A dominance, that’s enough to confirm that they’re at least as good as we all think they are.

We don’t know for sure one way or the other, but we’re confident in our belief that Juventus are going to be big players next season. Beyond that it’s obviously anyone’s guess, but the infrastructure is there.

Plus, we all know that Ronaldo isn’t going to allow himself to retire without securing at least one more Champions League title.
