Former Minnesota Players Gather MISL Awards

Former Minnesota Stars player Geison (Moura) and Thunder players Leo Gibson and Stephen DeRoux were honored this week from the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL).

The Brazilian Geison, who played on last year’s (2011) Stars team but was released after the season, was honored as Most Valuable Player of the league.  The Missouri Comets forward led the league with 90 points and 38 goals. In a late season streak, Geison earned  at least one point in 22 consecutive games finishing out the MISL regular season. Geison was also honored by making the 2011-12 All-MISL First Team.

Former Thunder players Leo Gibson and Stephen DeRoux were also honored by the league. Gibson, who also plays for the Comets, was named to the All-MISL Second Team. DeRoux, who plays for the Baltimore Blast, made the MISL All-Rookie Team being that it’s his first season playing in the indoor league.

Other notable former or current D2 pro players who where honored by the MISL are Mauricio Salles – All-MISL First Team (former Montreal Impact, Atlanta Silverbacks, Rochester Rhinos); Marcio Leite – All-MISL Second Team (Carolina RailHawks 07); Byron Alvarez – All-MISL Second Team (Portland Timbers, Charleston Battery); Machel Millwood –  All-MISL Second Team (Atlanta Silverbacks, Crystal Palace Baltimore); Eric Reed – MISL All-Rookie Team (California Victory, Carolina RailHawks).

Since the league’s merging last year with the USL, the MISL had record-breaking regular season attendance for 2011-12.
