Wayne Rooney Is MLS’ Multi-Tasking Man

When it was revealed that Wayne Rooney was heading over to Major League Soccer, the reactions were pretty ‘mixed’ to say the least. Some folks felt as if it was a really good move for his career both competitively and financially, whereas others felt like he made the switch just a bit too soon. Either way, though, it’s happened, and he seems to be really enjoying himself right now.

The Englishman has found his calling with DC United, and has actually been able to help guide them towards some success – much earlier than a lot of fans would’ve anticipated, ironically enough. As seen in a recent report from Washington Post, the general consensus seems to be that this first team squad is playing with the kind of discipline and maturity that we just haven’t seen from them in past years, which is great to hear.

The legend

For those who may have been living under a rock for the last 15 years or so, Wayne Rooney is considered by many to be one of the greatest English strikers that has ever lived (and the stats are there to back up that logic). He started off his career with Everton before making a switch to Manchester United, which is where a lot of fans will recognise him from. In addition to that, he also holds the title of being England’s top international goalscorer.

A brief return to Goodison Park soon followed, before he took it upon himself to take a leap of faith and go over to the MLS. Contrary to what some people may believe there was no guarantee that he would find the kind of consistency he needs in the United States, but in the same manner that he’s done throughout his entire career, he has proved people wrong.

The best part, though, is that he isn’t just scoring goals: he’s also influencing the rest of the team. DC United picked up a 3-2 win over Colorado recently, and Wayne didn’t score any of the three goals. He was busy picking up the slack across the rest of the field, doing a pretty great job in the process.

But the real headline, as reported by SB Nation, is that after the win Wayne decided to head on over to Augusta in order to support Tiger Woods and witness his historic 5^th Masters triumph.  

Two living legends

As has been the case throughout most of his career the victory wasn’t assured, but Tiger managed to get the job done – completing a pretty hectic few days for Mr Rooney.

As we look ahead to the future it certainly seems like Wayne is going to continue to thrive over in America, and we hope that’s the case. He’s probably only got a few years left at this level and unless he’s planning on having another short spell back in England, the MLS seems to be a really suitable home for him now.

Plus, there’s a pretty good chance he’ll be firing DC United to an MLS Cup appearance this season.
