Will Houston Overcome The LA Hierarchy?

The Western Conference is pretty easily the best conference in Major League Soccer today, and unfortunately for fans of the East, it’s not even really that close. All of the league’s best teams tend to ply their trade over in the West, and it seems as if that’s going to be the case for quite some time to come. We can’t know that for sure, but it definitely feels like that conference is onto something special.

LA ‘dominance’

One of the primary reasons as to why people feel like that this season comes down to the two top teams: Los Angeles FC and LA Galaxy. Those two sides have been riding high at the top of their division, to the point where many feel like they can’t be stopped. We’ve seen in recent weeks that they are capable of dropping points, though, meaning that one of the biggest remaining questions is this: can anyone catch them?

In our mind, and in the minds of many pundits, the answer is yes.

The Houston Dynamo aren’t widely recognised to be one of the best teams in the MLS, and they’ve kind of just been flying under the radar as of late. However, as reported by MLS Soccer, their recent derby day win over FC Dallas seems to have opened the eyes of many to what they are truly capable of.

They may not have the best squad in the West and they may not even be the most ‘complete’ team, but that just doesn’t seem to matter. They’ve got heart, they’ve got spirit, and they’ve got the kind of fanbase you need in order to make some real waves (and create an intimidating atmosphere).

But that’s not all, because as you can also read via MLS Soccer, they still seem to be utilising their humble roots that have kept them on the straight and narrow so far this season. That isn’t the easiest thing to do in a league like the MLS, because it can be really easy to get carried away and lose focus on your eventual end goal.

Making some noise

Houston has a really fascinating history in more ways than one, as they’ve only been in existence since December 2005. Ever since then they’ve been through the good times and they’ve been through the seriously bad times, starting off with unprecedented back to back MLS Cup-winning seasons. Nobody thought that was possible of an expansion team to do, but they did so in ruthless fashion.

Ever since then they’ve been something of a sleeping giant, ready to be woken once again. It seems like they’re finally starting to put the right pieces in place to do that, bringing on board a new mentality and a new mind set that will be really beneficial for the franchise as a whole

Their US Open Cup win last year gave them a taste of the big time once more, and it’s great to see that they’ve carried that momentum forward with them. It was never going to be easy and it was never going to be simple, but this feels like a team that is heading in the right direction.
