Steve Ralston Departs AC St. Louis and Returns to MLS New England Revolution

IMS broke the news last Friday that AC St. Louis was buying out players from the team’s roster who were not from the St. Louis area. As well, they were looking to unload the expensive contract of Steve Ralston, veteran MLS player who also had 36 caps with the US Men’s National team. The hope was if they freed up payroll money the team could survive their financial issues a bit longer until new investors could be found for the team.

Today the New England Revolution of MLS announced they have resigned the 35-year-old who spent eight years with the Revs.

“It seems like just a long vacation that I had,” Ralston told the Boston Herald. “Obviously, things didn’t work out in St. Louis how a lot of people had planned (they would work out). I had an opportunity to come back here and felt like it was probably the right thing to do.”

“I think it’s a win-win situation for both sides,” Ralston said. “It clears up some money for them to help keep it afloat. For me, I’m like every player. I want to play at the highest level and I had a great opportunity to come back here.”

Ralston made two appearances with AC St. Louis after coming off rehab for ACL surgery.  He made his debut on May 22 against the Tampa Bay Rowdies. He then started the May 29 match away against the NSC Minnesota Stars where he wore a brace on the knee but was very effective at right fullback.
