Daniel James Heads For Manchester United

The parade of speculation regarding who is going where during the summer transfer window has already begun, with every single major player under the sun being linked with a move away from their club. It’s certainly going to keep the media busy throughout the course of the summer, as well as the fans who won’t bother with the other international tournaments that are set to take place.

One deal that is set to be completed/may already be by the time this goes up is the deal for Daniel James. As reported by BBC and The Telegraph, Manchester United have switched up their transfer ‘style’ by going after a player that isn’t an overwhelmingly big name, and instead, just possesses the kind of raw and natural talent that you need to succeed at this level.

Proven commodity

James has proven himself to be a real commodity with Swansea City in the last few years, to the point where a series of top European clubs were interested in securing his signature. The 21 year old is set to sign on the dotted line in a deal believed to be worth £18 million, and it’s safe to say that fans are expected about it. The Welshman has a great deal of pace, fantastic vision, and the kind of final ball that will split backlines open up and down the Premier League. Of course, making the step up to the Premier League on a consistent basis is going to be a challenge for this young man, especially when you’re playing at Old Trafford every other week. With that being said he does seem to be the kind of player that doesn’t allow that sort of thing to bother him, and let’s face it, composure at this level is one of the best possible attributes you could hope to possess. A lot of Swansea fans are disappointed to see him go, and to be honest, they probably aren’t going to be all too overwhelmed by the figure United are paying either. You’d expect a transfer of this magnitude to generate a bit more money for the Swans in the current financial landscape, but alas, it’s still difficult to complain about receiving nearly £20 million.

On the rise

James is going to be entering a pretty tricky situation at Old Tarfford, as he attempts to guide the club back towards relevancy. United had a poor season to put it lightly last time out, and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be hoping that a new crop of youngsters will be able to fire them towards success.

James is just the first piece of the puzzle this summer, because it really does feel like Manchester United is going to have an incredibly different look by the time August rolls around. Perhaps that won’t be the case and they’ll stick to the status quo, but signing someone like James suggests otherwise. Either way, we’d cautiously suggest that this is a thoroughly exciting time to be a fan of the club, and it’s an even more exciting time to be Daniel James.
