English Championship Returns With Brand New Season

For the majority of countries, structures and leagues throughout the world, the second tier is viewed as being well below the top tier in terms of quality. While the same could certainly be argued for the English football league structure, the Championship definitely has some incredibly talented teams – and we would argue it is the most entertaining second tier in world football today.

As reported by BBC and FourFourTwo, the excitement is growing as Luton Town and Middlesbrough prepare to square off and get the new Championship campaign underway. While a lot of fans are excited to see what the brand new season is going to be producing, others are nervous wrecks as they attempt to figure out the future of their football clubs.

Moving forward

The match-up in question tonight probably isn’t going to wind up blowing a lot of people away, but trust us when we say that it’s almost certainly going to be more entertaining than you might think or expect. Luton are on fire and have been ever since their surge back up through the ranks of English football began when they dropped into the Conference a few years ago. We’re at a stage where they could realistically be a Premier League team in just a few short years, and we really enjoy that dynamic.

Middlesbrough, on the other hand, are being led by Jonathan Woodgate and Robbie Keane – which is a partnership that probably shouldn’t work, and yet it does. It really does.

Or, at least, it does in the eyes of the media. Everyone else probably still needs a little bit of convincing and you know what? That’s okay. There’s nothing wrong wanting to see how something works out in action as opposed to in principle because that’s how the majority of us get stuff done.

What happens next?

Every single year it feels like the majority of the 24 teams involved in the Championship are capable of going up to the Premier League, be it via the playoffs or the automatic promotion spots. Whichever route you decide (well, you don’t really decide, but you get what we mean) to take can be pretty difficult, but the road to getting there across 46 games is a whole lot worse.

We’re fascinated to see how it all goes down, and it starts tonight. We aren’t so sure who is going to pick up the three points, but remember now more than ever, it’s a marathon – not a sprint. There are plenty of games for you to get your mojo back if you lose it early on in the season, and remembering that fact can keep a lot of teams going in the long run.

In terms of a prediction we’re leaning towards Luton securing the three points, mainly because that just seems to be where the trajectory of all this is taking us. There are so many reasons to be excited and get pumped up about the Championship, and we hope you all come along for the ride.
