Five Biggest Results From The Premier League This Week

The English Premier League produced another set of really entertaining fixtures this past weekend as all 20 clubs played their final games before the first international break of the new season. Some were a little bit more impressive than others, which goes without saying, but these five results, in particular, taught us a great deal.

Manchester City 5-0 Arsenal

Manchester City made Arsenal look like an amateur side and we don’t think that’s being dramatic. Pep’s men never even had to get out of first gear and instead of producing an excellent display, they just got out of Arsenal’s way and allowed them to make their mistakes.

It was almost hard to watch at times and we can only imagine how the Gunners faithful felt about it after the full time whistle had blown.

Brighton 0-2 Everton

These two sides felt like the early “over-achievers” in the top flight and as such, it was pretty interesting to see them square off against one another – with the final result being the most fascinating part of it all.

The Toffees looked to be in control throughout and many didn’t expect that to happen, which just goes to show how much folks have been undervaluing and underrating Rafa Benitez.

Aston Villa 1-1 Brentford

There’s something about this Brentford side that is making them unbelievably fun to watch already this season and we think that’s going to continue, with the latest slice of evidence coming from their 1-1 draw against Villa.

They took the lead, got pegged back and held on to make it five points from three games which is actually pretty solid when you consider that their opponents have been Aston Villa, Arsenal and Crystal Palace.

Tottenham 1-0 Watford

People can go after Nuno Espirito Santo all they want but the bottom line is this: he’s getting results. Tottenham have won all three of their opening games 1-0 and in doing so, they’ve vaulted to the top of the Premier League table.

Watford were okay but it’s clear to see they’re going to struggle this season with the impact of Spurs and their new setup being the real headline of the day. They were just stronger than the Hornets and it showed why some are tipping them for a top four finish.

Wolves 0-1 Manchester United

Wolverhampton Wanderers controlled this game from beginning to end, aside from a few nervous moments, and yet they still managed to come away with no points – as they have done in all three fixtures so far this season.

Manchester United conducted a good old fashioned smash and grab and while many won’t like that, it’s the kind of style they need to play if they’re serious about a title push.
