Liverpool’s Premier League Title Race To Lose?

Some fans argue that you can tell a lot from the early portion of the new season, whereas others refuse to read too much into it one way or the other. There’s no right or wrong way of analysing this, to be perfectly honest, and you’re better off just waiting to see how everything pans out.

As reported by The Guardian and Metro, however, it’s getting harder and harder to avoid the obvious fact that is staring us right in the face: Liverpool Football Club are in pole position to win the Premier League, even more so than last season.

They never walk alone

If you ask Jurgen Klopp, however, it appears as if he’s more interested in talking about just about anything else – including the club’s opponents this upcoming weekend, Chelsea.

“They’re a really exciting football team, young and good,” the German said. “It’s not a surprise, it’s the truth Frank did an outstanding job at Derby and he is doing it at Chelsea. “He is a really good manager but it is a difficult league and we have to prove our quality.”

“If there is one club in the world who a transfer ban didn’t hit that bad then I would say it was Chelsea because of their policy of the last few years. “They had players on loan who have come back. Tammy Abraham knows how to score. ‘They have all my respect. A top contender.”

Alternatively, he’ll touch on what his side need to improve.

“We haven’t focused more on defensive things,” Klopp said. “The goals [against us] happen strangely, like Southampton. It’s not exactly what we want but we want to win football games. “We have to improve and develop and that’s how it is. It’s not because we have a different approach.”

What they’ve been waiting for?

The fact of the matter is this: Liverpool are top of the league by five points, with Manchester City trailing behind them. The Reds lost their opening Champions League group stage game, whereas City won theirs pretty convincingly.

It’s entirely possible to balance your resources and succeed in both competitions, but we just don’t think that’s what we’re seeing here. The Reds are the reigning European champions, whereas City are the current Kings of English football.

Are they starting to focus on the one competition apiece that they haven’t yet been able to conquer? It definitely feels that way.

We could be entirely off base with this analysis but it’s definitely the sort of direction that this appears to be trending in. For now, at the very least, we simply have to respect and appreciate what both clubs are doing: but more so than that, realise that Liverpool have a better chance than they have done in many, many years to become Champions of England.

It sounds ridiculous to say, but it’s already in their own hands. A big test is going to be how they react to facing Chelsea this weekend, who they struggled against in the Super Cup.
