Manchester City take spot amongst England’s historical greats

Retaining a Premier League title isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. Only two teams have done it so far in history, ever since the competition began in 1992. One was Sir Alex Ferguson’s Manchester United and the second was Jose Mourinho’s Chelsea. The rest fumbled and some have never won the title since they won the first won.

The two teams who have done that will probably be known to man as great teams even about 20 years from now. It requires consistency and immense mental strength to win the title twice in consecutive seasons. Its a case of managing expectations and meeting the pressure that comes with it.

City have probably done enough to go down as one of the greatest sides in the English game.  Not just because they’ve won the title twice, but because of how good they are and how they are a perfect team. Even when there seem to appear pores in the structure, the club knows how to fill it up with the right things that it needs.

It isn’t just down to money and the investments they are getting from the Middle East though. Even Manchester United have a lot of money- they are the richest clubs in the world today. Chelsea too have a lot of money. Paris Saint-Germain have a lot of money and so do Real Madrid.

But they aren’t in state that is as good as City’s. That isn’t because of the fact that City have more money than anyone else. It is because City are a better run club than anyone of the rich clubs in Europe. And they have a manager who is backed supremely with everything he wants and he never stops until he reaches perfection.

Pep Guardiola, for sure, won’t be satisfied with the season. They would want to win the FA Cup and they might as well do, but Guardiola won’t sit tight even in that case. The perfectionist that he is, Guardiola will strive to take the side to another level so that they can win everything there is to win.  He will get his players motivated for everything and he will keep improving them until they reach that ultimate goal.

Every single time he wants to improve in any department, the Man City board will be out to help him in getting whatever he needs to take the side to the next level. That is how an efficient club is run. Not ever club or not every big club can work in that way.

They are yet to win the Champions League, but retaining the Premier League is an achievement in itself. Not winning  the Champions League should not take the shine off a very remarkable season otherwise.

Even next season, it won’t be a surprise to see the Citizens go up a level again. They do need a right-back and left-back each and maybe even a central midfielder depending on how Ilkay Gundogan’s situation at the club pans out to be. The only way forward is up. And it is scary to think that they will only improve.
