Manchester City vs Liverpool – The Ultimate Rivalry

While Manchester United have served as their primary rivals over the course of the last few decades, Manchester City and Liverpool have formed quite the feud over the course of the last couple of years.

Under the guidance of Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp, they’ve been battling each other at every turn in pursuit of every piece of silverware they can get their hands on.

Today, we’re going to see how things are going across all four competitions they’re directly involved in this season.

League Cup

Manchester City had won the League Cup four years in a row prior to this season when, in the Round of 16, they were knocked out in stunning fashion as West Ham edged past the league champions on penalties.

Liverpool, meanwhile, saw this as a golden opportunity to kick on and actually win the competition. They beat Chelsea in the final on penalties and psychologically, you’d have to think this had an effect on City given their usual dominance in the League Cup.

FA Cup

Liverpool and Manchester City have both had a few tough ties to deal with in terms of stubborn opposition in the FA Cup but for the most part, they’ve been able to pass their respective tests with flying colours.

Now, next weekend, the foes will square off in their semi-final at Wembley. We all know they have bigger fish to fry but again, the FA Cup is an important trophy and both the Reds and City won’t want to underplay the importance of that.

Premier League

For a while it genuinely felt as if City were going to run away with the title but after an extraordinary effort from Klopp’s boys, they’ve been able to drag themselves kicking and screaming back into the race.

With eight games to go and the run-in officially upon us, City lead Liverpool by just one point. Given the state of play, it’s anyone’s guess as to how it’ll all play out.

Champions League

Both Liverpool and Manchester City are still in the Champions League at the quarter-final stage and, in the simplest of terms imaginable, we’d say they’re both doing quite well.

They both played last night and they both got first leg wins that they were looking for. Liverpool put on a clinic to beat Benfica 3-1 whereas Man City won 1-0, just about getting them past an incredibly stubborn Atletico Madrid side at the Etihad.
