Manchester United Dismantle Chelsea At Old Trafford

The brand new Premier League season is underway, and it’s safe to say that things are picking up already. All twenty teams have been given the chance to showcase what they’re all about ahead of the new season, and all of them have had varying levels of success.

We tend to believe that it’s going to take some time for us to figure out most of the top contenders, but the likes of Manchester City and Liverpool would probably take exception to that. Outside of those two, though, it feels like there’s probably going to be a four-house race for the two remaining Champions League spots.

Running away with it

Two of the teams involved in that imaginary race, Manchester United and Chelsea, went toe to toe at Old Trafford over the weekend. As reported by BBC and The Telegraph, despite the early signs making it seem as if it’d be a tight affair, the Red Devils were able to run away with it in typical United fashion (well, typical of the old school United).

The Blues were looking good in the game’s early exchanges, but a nailed on penalty decision removed all of that good work as Marcus Rashford opened the scoring for the hosts. The game ticked over into the second half with Chelsea gaining some confidence, but then in a bizarre two-minute spell, Martial and Rashford put the game out of reach for the visitors as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men turned on the style.

Daniel James, the kid that many opposition fans said had no finishing power, was able to do just that in the final ten minutes of the game in order to put the cherry on top of an unbelievably satisfying day at the office for Manchester United Football Club.

We know we’re not anywhere near the finished article,” Solskjaer said.

“We are working on improving as a team and finding a style that suits us a team. We still need time but it is coming.

“Winning is a habit. We are lucky to go in 1-0 up but in the second half our nerves settled, our confidence grew.”

“Harry has done exactly what we’ve signed him for, his presence in both boxes, his calmness and composure on the ball,” said Solskjaer.

Forcing the issue

“He’s a leader and with him, David de Gea and Victor Lindelof they marshalled that backline really well. It is important to have strong personalities at the back.

“Aaron is so aggressive, he doesn’t want to get beat, he’s a proper Manchester United defender.

“Daniel made a great impact and it is the best feeling ever scoring a goal in front of the Stretford End, you cant beat that.”

Now, Manchester United will turn their attention to what should be a really competitive encounter with Wolverhampton Wanderers next Monday night at Molineux. Chelsea, on the other hand, have the UEFA Super Cup against Liverpool to worry about prior to hosting Leicester City in their first home game of the brand new Premier League season under Frank Lampard.
