Strange Big Six Fortunes

The new Premier League season is in full flow and we already feel like this is going to be the strongest year we’ve seen from English football’s top flight in a long time. It may feel a bit premature to say that but in reality, the evidence is already starting to speak for itself.

Today, we’re going to take a look at how the traditional ‘big six’ are faring after the first few weeks.

Arsenal

For years now Arsenal have been seen as little more than a joke of a club, failing to live up to the lofty expectations of their fanbase. Now, though, they seem to have real direction under Mikel Arteta, and four wins out of four to start the campaign serves as undeniable proof of that. They’ve got a hungry squad, and that’s a great base to start with.

Manchester City

The interesting thing about Manchester City this season is that while they’re technically as strong as they’ve ever been, they’ve had a bit more trouble than they’re used to courtesy of tough, tough games against Newcastle and Crystal Palace. They’re still the title favourites, but it’ll be interesting to see if they keep having problems.

Tottenham

Antonio Conte is a born winner and we all know that to be true, which is what makes Spurs’ positive start to the campaign all the more intriguing. They aren’t even playing at their 100% best yet but they aren’t losing games, which leads us to believe they could get even stronger from here.

Chelsea

Thomas Tuchel rarely seems to be in a good mood and with just one win in their last four league games, we’re starting to understand why Chelsea might be part of the problem. They are dying for a natural goalscorer up top and if they don’t find one before the end of the window, there’s a chance they could be in trouble.

Manchester United

We can’t go around saying Manchester United are back in form after two wins in a row but they’ve shown improvements from the Brentford game which, of course, wasn’t hard. Erik ten Hag has a real passion for finding success and the Red Devils are going to be an entertaining team to watch between now and May.

Liverpool

Out of all the big six, Liverpool find themselves in the lowest position in the league down in 12th with just one win to their name thus far. Sure, that win was a 9-0 triumph over Bournemouth, but Jurgen Klopp can’t expect teams to roll over quite so easily every week – and they can’t go around blaming injuries this time.
