Aaron Wan-Bissaka is exactly what Man Utd need

It took a while to be announced, but Manchester United announced the capture of English right-back Aaron Wan-Bissaka for a fee of around 50 million pounds. While it happened exactly two hours before a scheduled Anti-Glazer protest at Old Trafford, it was met with an optimistic response by United faithfuls.

It should be too. Despite all the negativity around the club and the way it is run, Wan Bissaka is one big positive that they can look and be proud of. While it shouldn’t take their focus away from the protest against the Glazers, Wan-Bissaka is the sort of player that United need right now.

It isn’t because of how good a player he is- his ability to defend and not allow anyone to go past him, no. It is about his personality. The way he is.

It is said that Wan-Bissaka is a very silent customer. He is not someone who talks too much unless he is approached by someone. He is no-nonsense, work-minded and minds his own business. He works very hard on the pitch and in an era where footballers are often Instagram models, Wan-Bissaka is poles apart.

Perhaps United suffer the most from having their club to be portrayed as marketable, with massive focus on revenues and the number of followers it has on social media. That is the butt of the concern for United fans, as the #GlazersOut protest rages on.

The best part about Wan-Bissaka is that he hardly cares. He created his Twitter account in April, 2019 and it is his approach to football that stands out. He is known to be a very old school boy- someone that the managers of the old like Sir Alex Ferguson would love to have under their tutelage.

Coming to his football abilities, no right-back completed more take-ons this past season than him and no one won more tackles than him. He had the most number of interceptions and the highest tackle success rate among right-backs. Only Leroy Sane completed a dribble past him this season- only once.

That shows how good and resolute a player he is. For a club that is in dire straits defensively, Wan-Bissaka brings defensive dexterity and an assurance that their right wing won’t really be a liability. Antonio Valencia and Ashley Young were never good enough to play on a regular basis and defend. Dalot was brought in as someone who could do that but never played in the first-team on a regular basis.

But that is what Wan-Bissaka brings to the table- he is everything that United have lacked. He has the tenacity to succeed at a club like United for how his ethic is. From what Ole Solskjaer has inherited from Sir Alex, he would value the traits that he has and those will be a massive priority at the club.

This signing presents a policy that United should follow in the transfer window. With Sean Longstaff being targeted and Daniel James already at the club, Wan-Bissaka presents a sort of plan that United should take.
