David Beckham Wants Luis Suarez At Inter Miami

One thing that you have to admit when talking about David Beckham is that he is more than willing to do the grind necessary to succeed. In addition to his many accomplishments in the world of football he has also been able to branch out into the mainstream media, in a way that few others in the game have been able to do. He is now, and will likely forever be, an icon in the English game.

As most folks will know by now, he is preparing to introduce a brand new team into the landscape of Major League Soccer: Inter Miami. Aside from the name being viewed as a little bit played out by some, it seems like there’s quite a lot of excitement regarding the future for them.

There are still quite a few question marks surrounding the ins and outs of how things are going to work, but now that the rumour mill has begun generating a few potential transfers, all bets are off. As reported by JOE and FOX Sports Asia, one such rumour that seems to be gathering some steam involves Luis Suarez.

The main man

The controversial Uruguay forward has spent the last few years plying his trade at the highest level with Barcelona, after reigning supreme as one of the Premier League’s best forwards with Liverpool. There’s no doubting the fact that he has had a few questionable moments here and here over the course of the last few years, and beyond that, throughout his entire career. Even with that being the case he still seems to be receiving a great deal of attention and admiration, as he begins what will likely be the final few years of his playing career. The reports in question seem to indicate that Inter Miami, and David Beckham specifically, have offered Luis the chance to be their star man once they’ve officially joined the MLS. He is believed to have been offered a four year deal, although you’d have to question how much of that he’d be able to commit to on a long term basis.

Managing expectations

With that being said, it’s worth pointing out just how well someone like Zlatan Ibrahimovic has been able to do in the MLS. Both men often cause a stir with their actions off the pitch, but in equal measure, they represent the best of their generation in the goalscoring department. Suarez still has great pace, timing and reactions in front of goal, and at this level, that’s one of the only things you need. The MLS needs headline making players that are going to take them to the next level, and Suarez is still young enough to the point where he could really help them out. It’s the kind of move that would remind us of Wayne Rooney’s transition over to the American game, and whilst there’s no guarantee of Luis finding success, you’d have to imagine he would be one of the most intriguing acquisitions the league has had in years.

Brian Quarstad

My name is Brian I have always had a love of soccer since I was 19 and had the fortune to both play and coach in the beautiful game. I live in Minnesota so my main interest lies in the MLS as well as some of the local leagues, though I no longer contribute to this site.. you can still find some of previous posts here
