Inter Miami Lose First MLS Match To LAFC

Major League Soccer is back in our lives with a brand new season, and after a great deal of anticipation, Inter Miami have finally made their way into the league.

There has been a great deal of speculation as to how they may fare or what their ambitions are going to be for the season ahead, but either way, they were always going to be in for a baptism of fire when going up against a team with the sort of firepower that Los Angeles FC possesses.

The journey begins

It was a promising display despite the loss with Miami making it clear that they’re here to stay. They were defending really well, they looked composed, and they’re probably only one or two superstar  signings from making some serious waves in this league.

The one and only goal of the game came from a familiar source as Carlos Vela picked up where he left off last season by scoring on the stroke of half time to put Los Angeles into the lead.

It was more about restricting LAFC to one goal than going after the equaliser for Inter Miami, and as David Beckham watched on, he probably would’ve been dying to get on the pitch so that he could try and curl one into the top corner himself.

“I thanked [my team] for the effort because I think they played their hearts out,” Inter Miami manager Diego Alonso told reporters. “I think if we keep playing with this intensity we are going to do great things in MLS.”

LAFC manager Bob Bradley, on the other hand, had a short and sweet message as his team goes in search of MLS Cup glory.

Making a push for the top

“It was a really good team win and an amazing goal,” LAFC manager Bob Bradley said. “Not our best [game] but winning in that way is important for us.”

While David Beckham won’t want to be at the forefront of the story here, it’s certainly interesting to note the level of investment and passion he’s putting behind his project. He was the first major star to make his way over to North America in an attempt to improve the popularity of the game out there, and while this is still a work in progress, the wheels are certainly in motion.

If they can qualify for the playoffs this season that’ll be viewed as an absolutely massive success for this team, but in reality, anything other than finishing bottom of their division will probably be just fine, too.

Football isn’t all about money, as much as people want to tell you that it is, because the drive and determination of the fans tends to make it so much more than that.

Now, we have to see what kind of trajectory Inter Miami trends in. LAFC is set to move on to a big game against Philadelphia Union, whereas Inter Miami will attempt to pick up their first win in the league against DC United.
