Zlatan Drags LA Galaxy To Victory Once Again

As much as some fans may want to do so, it’s kind of impossible to get away from Zlatan Ibrahimovic if you’re a Major League Soccer fan – and even if you aren’t, he seems to be popping up on every single chat show in one way or another.

The Swede is undoubtedly one of the most exciting forwards in world football today, which is odd to say given that he’s in the twilight of his career. Even with that being the case he’s scoring goals here, there and everywhere, and as reported by Goal and Pro Soccer USA, he did the same thing in LA’s game against FC Dallas.

He’s a God, apparently

Galaxy were struggling to really break Dallas down for most of the game, and they had to wait until the 68th minute to find their breakthrough – courtesy of, you guessed it, that man Zlatan.

He scored again from the spot 14 minutes later, ensuring that they kept up the pressure on Minnesota United who currently occupy second place.

There was some controversy surrounding the use of VAR in the game, which was picked up on by Galaxy boss Guillermo Barros Schelotto after the game was said and done.

“To be honest I think sometimes, in some plays, I don’t know why some referees do not use the VAR with Ibra because I could see the penalty for Columbus and I could see twice in the D.C. United game,” said Schelotto.

“Everything that happens around Ibra is a matter for discussion. Maybe it happens with other teams but those teams or those players don’t attract the same attention. Because he is Ibra, situations are exaggerated a lot and also [for the referee] to claim [a foul] they have to be very clear.

Does he go too far?

“For Ibra it was a penalty. But if we have VAR, we need to use it because Ibra went to the floor and felt something and I don’t know why he [the referee] didn’t check it.”

It’s quite interesting to look at this kind of perspective, because it’s pretty easy to see things from either side. Firstly, there’s always the risk of the inmates running the asylum, or in this case, just one inmate.

Ibrahimovic, despite his age, is quite clearly the best player on the LA Galaxy roster – and the man himself knows that. He is well aware of the fact that he can play a series of situations to his own advantage, all for his own purposes and not the team’s.

That sounds a little morbid, but you have to wonder why Vela is doing so well with LAFC, and they’re at the top of the conference, and Zlatan is doing so well across the city, and they aren’t able to keep up the pace.

There’s a long way to go in this season but depending on who lifts the MLS Cup trophy, we’re pretty confident in saying that the general opinion on Zlatan Ibrahimovic will shift – one way or another.
