Tottenham Defy The Odds In Amsterdam

Oh what a night – watching Tottenham on a Wednesday night, you play Thursdays ‘cause you’re.. well, you know.

Tottenham Hotspur took one look at what Liverpool did on Tuesday evening and said anything you can do, we can do better. They were able to quite literally come back from the brink against Ajax, who seemed to have both feet in the final at half time.

Heading into the tie it seemed as if the home side were much more comfortable, especially given that they had pretty much all of their top stars available to them.

Overcoming the odds

Tottenham did not, and as the first half progressed, the Dutch side showcased their quality by racing into a nice two-goal lead. Alas, as a result of what happened at Anfield, you’d think Ajax would’ve known better than to let their foot off the gas.

Spurs came forward with real impetus in second half, and within a matter of minutes, Lucas Moura had got them right back into the tie with a quickfire double. They only needed one more goal to send themselves through to the final in Madrid, but they still had to wait until the very last kick of the game in order to get what they came for as Moura completed his hat-trick.

Of course, as reported by talkSPORT there are some fans that have gone straight for the jugular when it comes to gloating, but we don’t necessarily think that’s what this is about. As a football club, and we mean literally any football club in the world, you dream of the ‘big’ moments. You dream of being able to make it to these kinds of situations and these kinds of games, but more often than not, it doesn’t come across as a realistic thought. Spurs fans would’ve always dreamt of getting to this stage, but how many of them do you think legitimately thought it was possible?
It takes heart and determination to pull yourself up and dust yourself off as many times as they have, and as reported by BBC Sport, it doesn’t just mean a lot to the players – because it means everything to the manager, too. Mauricio Pochettino has often been ridiculed for not being able to bring trophies to North London, even though in many ways, he’s brought them so much more than that.

He’s a popular manager amongst neutrals when it comes to his personality, and as you can see from the clips that have been circulating around the web, it’s not exactly hard to see why. The guy isn’t just the manager of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club: he LIVES for this football club. There aren’t all too many gaffers at this level of the game that you can say that kind of thing about, which is a testament to his character.

The final is going to be a really interesting encounter between two of English football’s biggest and best clubs, and above all else, we’re just excited to see the Premier League being given the recognition it deserves.
