Arsenal Make Bid For Crystal Palace Star Wilfried Zaha

It’s funny how football can change in the blink of an eye – from the entire landscape of the game all the way down to one single transfer story. Of course, we all know that the money being thrown around through transfers is what makes the world go around, and the figures themselves have led to the story that we’re going to discuss here today.

In case you haven’t heard, Arsenal put forward a £40 million bid in an attempt to sign Wilfried Zaha from Crystal Palace. The Ivory Coast international is widely considered to be one of the best attacking players in the Premier League, with some even suggesting that should extend all the way through to Europe. Arsenal are well aware of that, and they’re also well aware of the fact that Zaha would be incredibly interested in the possibility of signing for them.

Will it happen?

Even with that being the case, though, as reported by BBC, there’s no way that Palace were going to accept that kind of offer from him. The belief is that the club are furious at the fact they’ve decided to offer such a fee, believing that they were trying to intentionally unsettle Zaha.

Whichever way you look at it Arsenal don’t come out of it looking all too great, as reported by The Telegraph. Palace are said to want around £80 million in order for Arsenal to officially secure his services, which just doesn’t seem like a very feasible figure for them right now. We all know that their lack of cash is one of their biggest ‘stinging points’ so to speak in the current transfer window, and this isn’t going to help matters.

It already seems to be pretty obvious that this is going to be the most important transfer saga of the summer for both clubs, mainly because nobody really knows how it’s going to end. Zaha clearly wants to leave, but Arsenal just don’t seem like a viable contender for his signature right now. Because of that, there’s some renewed hope amongst Eagles fans that they can keep hold of their man – even though that’s probably not what he actually wants.

Back and forth we go

Muddled would be the best way of describing this situation, but for now, all Arsenal fans want to see is a bit of commitment to spends from the board. That’s going to be much easier said than done, especially seeing as their most recent ‘protest’ barely drew enough people for a 5-a-side league.

Nobody enjoys when these sagas last for most of the summer transfer window, because it often detracts from other business that the clubs involved could be doing. Perhaps Palace are okay with delaying this deal, but we doubt it, given that they’ll want to re-invest the money they received from Wan-Bissaka sooner rather than later.

A lot of factors are still up in the air and we aren’t quite sure which way this is going to go, but one thing is for sure: we’re all going to be talking about it for a good few months (at least).
