FA Cup Quarter-Final Drama Awaits This Weekend

While another weekend of Premier League drama may be on the horizon, there’s also a whole slate of FA Cup quarter-finals for us to sink our teeth into.

The age-old competition is getting down to the nitty gritty now with all eight remaining clubs knowing that a win over the weekend will take them into the semi-finals, and with that comes the allure of a trip to Wembley.

Today, our job is to take a look at the four games and figure out what we think is going to happen – but let’s face it, this is the FA Cup we’re talking about here, and everything we say could go flying out of the window within the first five minutes of kickoff.

Bournemouth vs Southampton

This is the definition of a high stakes south coast derby that is actually a whole lot harder to predict than most people realise. Bournemouth are starting to look like bonafide promotion contenders again whereas Southampton are really struggling.

With the Cherries being the only lower league side left in the competition it’s really hard not to want them to get the job done, but logically speaking, we just can’t look past the Saints.

Prediction: Bournemouth 1-2 Southampton

Everton vs Manchester City

Everton are desperate to get themselves a piece of silverware but as we all know from their recent history, it’s a lot easier said than done. Carlo Ancelotti has made them believe they’re good enough to get over the finish line but in reality, they’re coming up against one of the best teams in world football.

City want that famous quadruple and we’re not so sure how many teams are going to be able to even come close to stopping them. They should overcome the Toffees in this one, but we do think it’ll be a nervy game.

Prediction: Everton 0-1 Manchester City

Chelsea vs Sheffield United

Arise, Sir Thomas Tuchel.

The new boss has been at the heart of Chelsea’s success in the last few weeks and he really does deserve a lot of credit for that. They look structured, organised and lethal on the break, which is the kind of combination that is always going to bode well for a team like the Blues.

They’ll be tackling a Sheffield United side that have absolutely no confidence running through them whatsoever and that’s a shame given that they were able to achieve last season. This is their last chance to try and make up for the calamity of a campaign they’ve had, but we think they’ll ultimately fall short.

Prediction: Chelsea 3-0 Sheffield United

Leicester vs Manchester United

Games between these two clubs tend to either be absolute barnburners or one of the worst games of the weekend – and we’re leaning towards the latter.

Leicester are starting to stumble in the final few months of the season as they did in 2019/20, and United will be tired after their Europa League outing against AC Milan. It’ll be another close one with only one a single goal separating the sides.

Leicester 0-1 Manchester United
